The plane crashed at 2,700 metres altitude in the Alps, in the commune of Méolans-Revel, an isolated area of small villages and hamlets that are difficult to reach. Debris is scattered over an area of 2 sq km, according to French search and rescue.

Flight 4U 9525 vanished from radar screens at about 10.47 am local time, 46 minutes after take-off from Barcelona. French officials said that debris had been found on the 2,961 metre-high Estrop massif near the small town of Barcelonette in the Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence. French aviation officials denied earlier reports that the stricken aircraft had sent out a “mayday” signal. They said that it was French air traffic control which issued the distress signal when the plane disappeared from radar screens.

GEORGE SOROS on UKRAINE CRISIS - Ukraine Could Collapse & Putin Might Move in Troops Within 60 Days

George Soros, the billionaire investor and philanthropist known for his successful attack on the British Pound and, more recently, for his generous support of NGOs and various pro-democracy organizations throughout Eastern Europe, recently wrote an essay for the New York Review of Books. In it, he called on Europe to spend $50 billion (yes, that’s billion with a B) bailing out Ukraine. More generally, Soros argued that Europeans need to realize that Ukraine isn’t just another emerging market and that their future depends on the success of Kiev’s current reform-minded government. Europe needs to wake up and recognize that it is under attack from Russia. Assisting Ukraine should be considered as a defense expenditure by the EU countries.”

When he was a young man, Soros famously had to flee his native Hungary to escape the Soviet-backed communist regime. Given this personal history, Soros’ wariness of the threat posed by Russian revanchism, if a bit overheated, is perfectly understandable. Even if you disagree with his thesis about the “threat” posed by Russia, Soros quite unambiguously argues that Russia’s current regime presents far and away the greatest security risk to Europe, one can easily understand where he is coming from.

But Soros doesn’t just want to make Moscow “pay a price,” he (accurately, in my humble view) argues that it’s not enough for the European Union to simply punish the Russians. Rather, there is an urgent need to actually aid the Ukrainians and to prevent popular living standards from collapsing any further than they already have.

Given Ukraine’s extremely close economic linkages with Russia, Russia is still the country’s largest single trading partner, any disruption to the Russian economy will have an inevitable trick-down effect. In other words when it shoots at the Russian economy, the West inevitably ends up hitting the Ukrainian economy to0.

A group of business leaders in Japan is proposing that nuclear power supply at least 20 percent of the country's energy needs by 2030.
The nuclear accident at Fukushima four years ago has prompted Japan to reconsider how it produces electricity.
Government officials, politicians and business leaders, as well as academics and civic groups, are working on the problem. They are trying to figure out what mix of energy sources could meet the country's needs.
Officials with the Japan Association of Corporate Executives say nuclear power will be needed as a base-load energy source for some time to come.
They say it's unlikely that renewable resources such as wind and solar power will supply more than 30 percent of energy needs by 2030.
They say Japan will probably have to rely on nuclear power for 20 percent or more of its energy needs.
Before the 2011 accident, nuclear power supplied 28 percent.
All of Japan's nuclear power plants are currently off line.

Why Do Financial Crimes Go Unpunished? Rich and Poor, Debt and Finance (2014)

 The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to a financial crisis and subsequent recession that began in 2008. It was characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. Several major financial institutions collapsed in September 2008, with significant disruption in the flow of credit to businesses and consumers and the onset of a severe global recession.

Government housing policies, over-regulation, failed regulation and deregulation have all been claimed as causes of the crisis, along with many others. While the modern financial system evolved, regulation did not keep pace and became mismatched with the risks building in the economy. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) tasked with investigating the causes of the crisis reported in January 2011 that: "We had a 21st-century financial system with 19th-century safeguards."[1]

Increasing home ownership has been the goal of several presidents including Roosevelt, Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush.[2] However, the FCIC wrote that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, government affordable housing policies, and the Community Reinvestment Act were not primary causes of the crisis.[1][3]

Failure to regulate the non-depository banking system (also called the shadow banking system) has also been blamed.[1][4] The non-depository system grew to exceed the size of the regulated depository banking system,[5] but the investment banks, insurers, hedge funds, and money market funds were not subject to the same regulations. Many of these institutions suffered the equivalent of a bank run,[6] with the notable collapses of Lehman Brothers and AIG during September 2008 precipitating a financial crisis and subsequent recession.[7]

The government also repealed or implemented several laws that limited the regulation of the banking industry, such as the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act and implementation of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. The former allowed depository and investment banks to merge while the latter limited the regulation of financial derivatives.

Although debtor's prisons no longer exist in the United States, residents of some U.S. states can still be incarcerated for debt as of 2014.[14][15][16][17] The Vera Institute of Justice reported in 2015 that jails throughout the United States have become warehouses for the poor, the mentally ill and those suffering from addiction as such individuals lack the financial means or mental capacity to post bail.[18]

According to a 2014 report by Human Rights Watch, "tough-on-crime" laws adopted since the 1980s have filled U.S. prisons with mostly nonviolent offenders.[19] This policy failed to rehabilitate prisoners and many were worse on release than before incarceration. Rehabilitation programs for offenders can be more cost effective than prison.[20] According to the Brennan Center for Justice, falling crime rates cannot be ascribed to mass incarceration.

 In the first half, Katherine Albrecht, a consumer privacy expert and VP of Start Page, the world's most private search engine, discussed the breakneck speed that tracking technology is evolving and how the prospect of chip implants in humans looms in the future unless a movement of resistance is realized. At a new high-tech office complex in Sweden, tenants are consenting to get an RFID chip implanted under their skin in order to gain entry and use services. Albrecht believes that such technology, in which the flesh is pierced, is akin to what the Bible warned about 2,000 years ago-- the mark of the beast.

A few years back, companies like Blue Cross were using chipping for medical patients. Albrecht and her organization were influential in putting a stop to such medical practices by showing that implanted chips can cause cancer. There is also evidence demonstrating that pets can get tumors associated with being chipped. However, if your pet is already chipped, she advised not having it removed unless you can feel a nodule or hard area around where the chip was implanted. Albrecht also spoke out against the encroachment upon privacy by companies such as Google, which she suggested is not a search engine but a "market research company" that tricks people into revealing information about themselves. She recommended StartMail (an offshoot of StartPage), an alternative, private email service that she's involved in, which recently won an Editor's Choice award from PC Magazine for being the easiest-to-use encryption email program.

In the latter half, child psychiatrist Dr. Jim Tucker, who directs research into children's accounts of past-life memories at the University of Virginia, Division of Personality Studies, reported on his latest work focusing primarily on cases in the United States. We have good evidence that some children do have knowledge of events from the past, he said, and the simplest explanation is that this knowledge comes from memories of their own past life, which somehow they were able to retain. Interestingly, the average age when the child's recall occurs is between two and three years-old, and it typically fades out by the time they're 6 to 7, he cited.

Among the cases he detailed, were Ryan - a boy who believes that he was once a powerful Hollywood agent, and a young golfing prodigy named Hunter who at the age of two declared he was the famous golfer of the 1930's, Bobby Jones, after seeing him on the Golfing Channel. He was also able to identify another golfer that he knew in the 1930s. The boy, now nine, has won over 100 golfing tournaments, Tucker stated. The case is unusual in that Jones had been dead over 50 years. Typically, recalled lives are more recent, with the deceased person having only been gone from two to four years, he noted. Additionally, most recalled lives are of ordinary rather than famous people, Tucker pointed out.
