Central banks would have to intervene and if not they would have to be told to do so by a multilateral institution such as the International Monetary Fund."

Due to a lack of evidence, the Obama administration has balked on using military force in Syria. "Although there is little sign of the UN investigations team declaring chemical weapons have been used, western governments say that reporting of such incidents keeps up pressure on the Assad government and could deter it from large-scale use of chemical weapons," The Guardian reported on Wednesday. "There is increasingly strong evidence of localized use of chemical weapons," French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius claimed on Monday. "We are consulting with our partners to see what concrete consequences that we are going to draw from this."

Israel warned Thursday that it needed to prepare for a "new era" of war in the Middle East as the Syrian regime claimed the first shipment of anti-aircraft missiles from Russia had arrived.

The message comes as the Syrian opposition announced it will not attend a peace conference pushed by the Obama administration, crushing hopes of a ceasefire agreement soon in a war that is rapidly spilling across borders.

Israel vowed to target the S-300 long-range missiles that Russia has promised to send to Syria, insisting the rockets are an offensive weapon that could target Israeli commercial aircraft as well as its fighter jets inside Israeli airspace.

Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day civil defense drill that simulated missile attacks from Syria, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel "must prepare defensively and offensively for the new era of warfare."

"The Israeli home front is more accessible to the enemy than it has been," he said.

His remarks come as fighting between the rebels and Syrian military continued Thursday in the town of Qusair near the border with Lebanon. The Syrian army Wednesday took control of nearby Dabaa air base with the help of hundreds of Hezbollah militants.

The region is important to rebels who use it to transport supplies to their fighters. If lost would be a significant setback for the opposition, which has controlled the region for a year.

Investigative reporter Linda Moulton Howe discussed a new coronavirus called MERS, a link between the boom mystery, increasing frequency of sinkholes, and earth changes, as well as updates on crop circles, and the dire honey bee situation. Her first report looked at MERS - Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome -- a virus that was first observed in Saudi Arabia and has spread to France, Tunisia, Germany, Jordan, Qatar and the United Kingdom, in some cases through human to human contact. As of May 21st, the World Health Organization has confirmed 44 cases and 22 deaths -- an alarming 50% mortality rate. The illness appears similar to SARS, as both attack the lungs, and kill by pneumonia and kidney failure. Linda spoke with microbiologist Dr. Susan Baker who noted that MERS is similar to a virus found in bats, and may have spread to humans from them or an intermediate host. There were aggressive health measures to curb the spread of SARS during its outbreak in 2003, but as of yet this kind of strategy has not been adopted with MERS. More here.

In Lakeport, California, on May 6, 2013, Robin and Scott Spivey, a former building inspector, were stunned after their home dropped 10 feet below the street. Eight other homes in the area have also sunk, while ten other homeowners have been given "notice of imminent evacuation" because the unexplained ground sinking jeopardizes them as well. She interviewed Kevin Ingram and Anthony Farrington, officials with Lake County, and they reported that the problem originated from at least 25 feet down into the ground. According to an engineer who has been in touch with Linda, a geophysicist he worked with on military contracts for the US Air Force told him that "since 2011, many geologists have noticed almost a 1000% increase in soil liquefaction," which might explain the more frequent sinkholes. The geophysicist also said that he and his colleagues "believe something is going on in the inner core of the Earth. They don't know if it's a magnetic pole change; [or] restructuring of minerals within the soil down to the mantle and core," and could be related to the mysterious boom sounds heard around the country. The first 2013 crop formation reported in the world came in 4-foot-tall grass growing for hay on a farm in Gray, Tennessee, first seen on May 13th, about 21 miles north of Johnson City. Linda spoke with investigator Roger Sugden who found it be anomalous in the way the tall grass was intricately placed down and there was no disturbance of any kind in the soil and field around the unusual pattern. She also interviewed land owner Connie Osborne, who said that witnesses reported seeing a hovering blue light in the area of the crop formation 10 days before the pattern appeared. Another resident of Gray, TN, Robin Wheelock, revealed that when she was standing in the grass formation, mysterious orbs could be seen on video footage recorded of her. More.

In her last report, Linda delved into honey bee deaths in the Fall/Winter of 2012/2013, in which at least one-third of U.S. colonies died out. Entomologist Dennis vanEngelstorp at the University of Maryland has warned that "we're getting closer and closer to the point where we don't have enough bees in this country to meet pollination demands." Tom Theobald, owner of Niwot Honey Farm in Colorado, outlined the seriousness of the problem, calling it an environmental disaster. He pointed to soil contaminants such as Clothianidin (a pesticide) as one of the causes, and noted that it will take years for it to be purged out of the soil. Further info.

Novel coronavirus was renamed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). 5/30/13 - When Bill O'Reilly put Alex Jones' face next to the words "HATE SPEECH" in the opening of his show last night, he had to be expecting an impassioned response from the radio host. Jones did not disappoint today, calling O'Reilly a "bully punk" and challenging him to a pay-per-view boxing match. "I'd like to get in a boxing ring with Bill O'Reilly," Jones said, after accusing him of taking his words out of context on his show Wednesday night. "I challenge you to a pay-per-view boxing match. You think you're so tough?" Jones accused O'Reilly of trying to intimidate his guests by turning their microphones off and pointing his finger in their faces. "You big, fat bully!" he exclaimed.

"You're scared to have me on your show," Jones said, predicting that if he was a guest, O'Reilly would draw 10 million viewers. "You're jealous. Your radio show failed, you're a failure." Jones insisted that he represents the "independent" "wave of the future" while O'Reilly is stuck in the past. Increasing his intensity and volume, Jones screamed, "you want to start a fight with me, punk? Huh? You think you can shove me around? You're a coward, punk, rat bastard!"

Jones then brought Rachel Maddow, who has also recently gone after Jones on the air, into his rant, equating the MSNBC host with O'Reilly in way she probably never anticipated.

"I've had enough of these cowards, up there--both of these guys--Rachel Maddow and him. I'm sick of them! I'm tired of them! They don't have the will to actually debate me. Come on my show punk!"

While it's highly unlikely that either O'Reilly or Maddow will be appearing on Alex Jones' radio show any time soon, we can look forward to seeing if and how O'Reilly responds to this tirade tonight.

Yes, a new version of The Great Gatsby opened today, a fond look back at a gilded age when the very rich ran their big pretty cars right over the very poor. And that was supposed to make you sad — for the rich, or the car, I can't quite remember.

But the point is, Gatsby isn't really accurate for today, because the wealth gap now is so much more profound than it was even in the 1920s. The average "sales" associate at Walmart makes $8.81 an hour. While the six heirs to the Walmart fortune are worth $90 billion (audience gasps) — the same as the bottom 130 million Americans. Yes, the have-nots are getting a lot have-nottier.

And not just at Walmart. 1 in 4 Americans makes less than $10 an hour. 146 million, about half the country, do not have enough to meet basic needs. And I say if you don't want to pay people, just go all the way and do what we do here in Hollywood, and call them "interns". (audience laughter and applause)

Look at fast food jobs. It used to be they were the extra jobs our kids would do to earn money for gas and weed. So they weren't using up all of mom and dad's. Adults worked actual jobs. But now, the economy is such that the fast food jobs are the actual jobs. The median age of a fast food worker is now 28. At the end of the order, they say, "Do you want one of my kids with that?"

And they're the lucky ones. There's now a web service called Seeking Arrangement.com that matches rich men with cash-strapped college girls. He provides tuition money, and she provides "companionship". It's one hand washing the other — only in the case of one of the hands, it's a penis.

FDA declares Cloned meat Safe. Are we supposed to feel good about that with their track record ? More about the FDA shortly and I do want to know what you think about the FDA and the idea of eating cloned, unmarked, meat? The FDA assures us after a supposed 5 year study for your safety they concluded that cloned livestock is "virtually indistinguishable" from conventional livestock. i really don't know what I think about this yet but I have learned not to trust the FDA. I have to ask how virtual is this virtually indistinguishable difference? and we don't need special labels? I understand the verdict is out for 3 months until a final decision is made on disclosure issue . While Joseph Mendelson, legal director of the Center for Food Safety says we are going to be having a product that has potential safety issues and has a whole load of ethical issues tied to it, without any labeling. Also the director of food policy at the Consumer Federation of America said the FDA is the old VP of Monsanto! Ignoring research that shows cloning results would be in any way harmful"Of Course"
More deaths and deformed animals than other reproductive technologies. They have announced that they feel so good about this cloned meat that they will ask food companies and supermarkets to refuse to sell food from clones. Looking at the process used in the cloning it appears to be innocent enough but i don't know? we're supposed to feel better because they are only going to use these manufactured animals for breeding! Questions regarding bank solvency, declines in credit availability and damaged investor confidence had an impact on global stock markets, where securities suffered large losses during 2008 and early 2009. Economies worldwide slowed during this period, as credit tightened and international trade declined. Governments and central banks responded with unprecedented fiscal stimulus, monetary policy expansion and institutional bailouts. Although there have been aftershocks, the financial crisis itself ended sometime between late-2008 and mid-2009. In the U.S., Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. In the E.U., the U.K. responded with austerity measures of spending cuts and tax increases without export growth and it has since slid into a double-dip recession

(NYTimes) BEIRUT, Lebanon — President Bashar al-Assad of Syria said in a television interview to be broadcast on Thursday that Russia has delivered S-300 air defense missiles to his country, weapons that Israel has said present a threat to its security and against which it is willing to use force.
"Syria has received the first shipment of Russian antiaircraft S-300 rockets," Mr. Assad said in the interview, to be broadcast on Al Manar, the television channel of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which in recent weeks has dramatically increased its military intervention in Syria on the side of Mr. Assad's government. "The rest of the shipment will arrive later today."

Russian officials had said earlier this week that the country would deliver the weapons to Syria, a move that Mr. Assad's opponents said was a sign that neither Russia nor the Syrian government was serious about proposed negotiations to end the Syrian civil war that Russia and the United States are trying to organize for as early as next month.

The interview with Mr. Assad was taped on Tuesday, according to the Beirut news director of Iran's English-language Press TV. That same day, Israel's defense minister declared categorically that the missile systems had not yet been delivered.

A senior Israeli official said on Thursday that the S-300 missile systems "do not just come in a box" and that different elements would probably be delivered in stages. It was possible, he said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of diplomatic constraints, that some parts had arrived in Syria, but he added that there was no indication at this stage that the systems were anywhere near operational.

Secretary of State John Kerry has raised the issue of the arms sales with the Russians, even as he and the Russian foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, are trying to arrange a meeting between the Assad government and the rebels. Asked about the missiles and Israeli warnings that the deliveries of them would pose a threat to Israel, the State Department's spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said on Wednesday: "We support Israel's ability to defend themselves, certainly, but we remain hopeful and remain committed to working towards a political transition. And that's what our focus is here on Syria, and we remain concerned about the overflow impacts of the events that are happening on the ground."

The Syrian government and the opposition have hardened their positions in recent days, casting doubt on the future of the proposed talks as each side declared a starting point that is thoroughly unacceptable to the other.

On Wednesday, the Syrian opposition said that Mr. Assad's departure was a prerequisite of talks — a condition his government and Russia reject — while Syria's foreign minister said that Mr. Assad would stay on at least until 2014 and might seek re-election and that any peace agreement would have to be approved by a referendum.

Mr. Assad's statements — and the choice of the Hezbollah channel to deliver them — added to the confrontational atmosphere. His statements were first reported in the Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar and confirmed by Ali Rizk, who performed the simultaneous translation of the interview to be broadcast on Iran's Press TV.

Syrian rebel commanders have also issued aggressive statements in recent days, threatening to attack Hezbollah and even the Lebanese Army inside Lebanon if Hezbollah's intervention is not halted.

Late Wednesday, Lebanon's president, Michel Suleiman, a political ally of Hezbollah, issued an unusual statement calling on Hezbollah to pull out of Syria for the sake of Lebanese security and the integrity of the group's primary mission, fighting Israel.

Lebanese politicians of every stripe have been loath to directly confront Hezbollah, which fields the most seasoned and influential military force in the country, trumping even the army. But as rocket attacks on Hezbollah areas have increased along with sectarian anger, a growing chorus has worried that Hezbollah and Lebanese Sunni militants supporting the Syrian rebels are destabilizing the country.
