It is widely expected that the Federal Reserve is going to announce the end of quantitative easing this week. Will this represent a major turning point for the stock market? But when the various phases of quantitative easing have ended, stocks have always responded by declining substantially. The only thing that caused stocks to eventually start rising again was a new round of quantitative easing. So what will happen this time? That is a very good question. What we do know is that the the performance of the stock market has become completely divorced from economic reality, and in recent weeks there have been signs of market turmoil that we have not seen in years. Could the end of quantitative easing be the thing that finally pushes the financial markets over the edge?

After all this time, many Americans still don’t understand what quantitative easing actually is. Since the end of 2008, the Federal Reserve has injected approximately 3.5 trillion dollars into the financial system. Of course the Federal Reserve didn’t actually have 3.5 trillion dollars. The Fed created all of this money out of thin air and used it to buy government bonds and mortgage-backed securities. Americans are seeing near-zero interest rates on their savings accounts while median incomes are falling, and millions of people are facing higher gas prices, food prices, electricity prices, health insurance prices. Enough is enough, the Federal Reserve needs to open its books — Americans deserve a sound and stable dollar. It looks like a growing number of professional investors are preparing for a stock market crash, as hedge fund filings for the second quarter show a spike in defensive positions.

In particular, legendary billionaire George Soros made a huge bet against the market. He increased his short position on the Standard & Poor’s 500 by a startling 605%. A gold backed currency? What a crazy concept. My bet is the market will love it. The banks will hate it, but overall the Swiss people will benefit. So will the non-Swiss who are paying attention now. For many Americans the country of Mexico conjures up images of a third world nation. Exposed! FBI Pretended to be 'Seattle Times' Newspaper, Hacked Suspect's Computer!

The editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Seattle Times newspaper says she’s “outraged” to learn only this week that the FBI made a mock-up of the publication’s website in 2007 in order to spread spyware onto the computer of a suspect.

When agents with the Seattle division of the FBI swarmed the home of a 15-year-old high school student that year and charged him with making bomb threats, media reports noted that the arrest was made possible with the use of a so-called “Computer & Internet Protocol Address Verifier” program, or CIPAV, that had been remotely installed on the individual’s machine to collect and then communicate to the authorities the user-specific information that eventually identified the suspect. The student later pleaded guilty to emailing repeated bomb threats to Timberline High School and was sentenced to 90 days in juvenile detention.

Until this week, how the FBI actually went about sneaking the CIPAV program onto the student’s computer was a matter that went unreported. After digging through a trove of emails previously obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, however, American Civil Liberties Union technologist Chris Soghoian stumbled upon details this week showing that authorities accomplished the installation by sending a malicious link disguised as a Seattle Times news article to a social media account used by their suspect.

Retired TV weatherman John Coleman, who studied and reported the weather for decades, and co-founded The Weather Channel, shared his assertion that man-made climate change is no longer scientifically credible. He recently presented this view at a UCLA forum on climate change, and in an open letter attacking the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which got picked up by international media (see related article). The issue became politicized after Al Gore helped promote the idea of scientist Dr. Roger Revelle that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas causing climate change.

Climate change is natural and constantly occurring and is not affected by the actions of mankind, Coleman stated. We've had a half dozen dramatic climate shifts between ice ages and interglacial periods. Just 15,000 years ago there was a huge ice sheet covering parts of North America which was naturally caused, and then it was warmed up by natural causes and began melting, he noted, adding that the Earth is always varied in its climate. While carbon dioxide has increased in the atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels, it's still less than ½ of 1% of the total atmospheric carbon dioxide, and this increase causes insignificant warming if any, he commented. The Earth is actually 20% greener than it was, and there's been no scientific validation that the increase in CO2 is bringing about a climate crisis, he added.

In the latter half, Travis Walton recounted the details of what happened November 5, 1975 when he and a group of loggers in the mountains of Arizona observed a strange, bright light in the sky. He left his companions and the safety of his truck to take a closer look. When he failed to reappear, authorities mounted a massive manhunt in search of him. He showed up five days later with a tale of being taken aboard an alien craft. Walton now believes that rather than being abducted by the aliens, they were actually trying to heal him after he'd been struck by a powerful beam of light emitted by their craft.

He described the beings as small creatures with very large eyes, which suggests to him that they come from a place with low light conditions. Their general appearance matches what people now refer to as the "greys," though Walton believes there are several different alien species who happen to be similar in appearance. Their craft, he recalled, was sterile-looking and devoid of features. While Walton felt a great amount of fear during his encounters, he didn't conclude that the beings were malicious. "With advanced technology comes a higher level of ethical and moral development," he said, adding that he recently spoke to a group in Hollywood cautioning them about always portraying aliens as monsters. In the days since the shooting, the gunman, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, has been identified as a convert to Islam with a history of drug abuse, criminal activity and mental illness. The incident came two days after another violent attack on Canadian troops in Quebec. Martin Couture-Rouleau, also identified as a "radicalized" Muslim convert, drove a car into two soldiers, killing one of them. The incidents have sparked fears of blowback shortly after Canada joined the U.S.-led war against Islamic State militants in Iraq. But the violence has also raised questions about Canada's treatment of the mentally ill and others on the margins. Zehaf-Bibeau had been dealing with a serious crack-cocaine addiction and living in and out of homeless shelters. On Monday, the Canadian government introduced an anti-terrorism measure that was to have been unveiled the same day as the Ottawa attack. Monsanto, BigAg Spend Millions Fighting Colorado, Oregon Ballot Measures to Label GMO Foods

Colorado and Oregon could soon become the first states in the nation to pass ballot initiatives mandating the labeling of food products containing genetically modified organisms. Earlier this year, Vermont became the first state to approve GMO labeling through the legislative process, but the decision is now being challenged in the courts. Numerous items are already sold in grocery stores containing genetically modified corn and soy, but companies are currently not required to inform consumers. Advocates of Prop 105 in Colorado and Measure 92 in Oregon say GMO foods can be harmful to human health due to pesticide residues and the altered crop genetics. Opponents say the effort to label genetically modified food is overly cumbersome and will spread misinformation. Leading corporations opposing the labeling measures include Monsanto, Kraft Foods, PepsiCo Inc., Kellogg Co. and Coca-Cola. By some accounts, opponents of labeling have contributed roughly $20 million for campaigning against the proposed laws, nearly triple the money raised by supporters of the initiatives. In Oregon, the fight for GMO labeling has turned into the most expensive ballot measure campaign in the state's history. Swiss to Test Ebola Vaccine on Volunteers Going to West Africa

Switzerland's drug regulator said on Tuesday (October 28) it had approved the testing of an experimental Ebola vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline on healthy volunteers, some of whom will be traveling to West Africa as medical staff.

The trial will be conducted among 120 volunteer participants at the Lausanne University Hospital, with support from the World Health Organization.

"This approval means that approximately 120 individuals in Lausanne will be used to trial these vaccines as volunteers. The trial is also ongoing in Mali, United Kingdom and United States. The vaccines is based on genetically modified chimpanzee adenovirus," WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told a news briefing in Geneva.
Meanwhile, food prices have risen by an average of 24 percent across the three countries worst hit by the Ebola outbreak, the World Food Program (WFP) said on Friday, as aid workers scrambled to distribute emergency rations to the hungry.

The food-producing regions of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa have been severely affected by the worst outbreak on record of the viral haemorrhagic fever that has killed 4,546 across the three countries.

In the Liberian capital Monrovia, prices of cassava and imported rice, the main staple food, have jumped by 30 percent.

BREAKING: Two shot at Nash County courthouse
NASHVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol and Nash County authorities are on the scene after two people were shot Tuesday morning at the Nash County courthouse in Nashville.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed crime tape up around the entrance to the courthouse and yellow bullet shell casing markers.

Sheriff Dick Jenkins said deputies are searching for a single suspect. A North Carolina Highway Patrol helicopter was being used to assist in the search in a wooded area. Dogs were also being used.

Two people were shot on the front steps of the Nash County Courthouse Tuesday.


At this time, the main entrances to the Nash County Administration buildings are locked, therefore no one is being allowed to leave or enter the office buildings.

There was no immediate word on how badly the two people shot are hurt. The sheriff did not immediately have a description of the suspect to give out.
