Our global economy, reckless in its use of all resources and natural systems, shows many of the indicators of potential failure that brought down so many civilisations before ours. Industrial civilisation is currently "completely dependent on the availability of cheap energy. Therefore, resource depletion combined with the wild cards of rising temperatures, slowly rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and, above all, destabilised weather for farming could lead to a rolling collapse of much of civilisation unless the world embarks on a Manhattan project level of commitment to transition to an alternative energy and agricultural system. To Evolve by definition means develop gradually, esp. from a simple to a more complex form. So in all reality the definition will ring true. You may be thinking that we have already evolved from a simple to a complex form, But due to cheap and easy energy and abundant resources we have had a fairly simple life, although the infrastructure we have built is very complex. Either way we are entering a transition with less therefore we will be forced to evolve once again, but this time into a more simple way of life. So without the easy energy It will be a more complex way of life for most people just to Survive. Think about it.
