Sergey Lavrov: The UN cannot be more efficient than its member states because the UN is not some abstract notion; the UN is an international organization composed of governments, and it is these governments that define its agenda. All the Secretariat does is act on the instructions they receive from the governments. The UN has been changing and will certainly continue to change; the UN reform is an ongoing process. And this is not just because the people working on it have nothing else to do; no, we live at a time when the whole world is changing. New challenges come up all the time. Who knew this Ebola virus would come up, for example? And yet it is perhaps the top priority now. Something needs to be done to stop people from dying. We need to find some kind of cure. The UN is being reformed in many different aspects. For example, the Peacebuilding Commission was set up a few years ago. It deals with the situations when a conflict enters the stage of settlement, and there is a need for reconstruction. Such situations are in between two jurisdictions: that of the Security Council dealing with war and peace matters, and that of the Economic and Social Council – dealing, naturally, with the matters reflected in its name.

Filling in for George, Richard Syrett welcomed Epoch Times reporter Tara MacIssac, who discussed the latest research on near-death experiences (NDEs). She spoke about critical care physician Dr. Sam Parnia and the AWARE study, which investigates out-of-body claims by using hidden targets that can only be seen from above a patient's physical location. "There hasn't been a really strong case out of that AWARE study... that shows that a person saw that specific target and reported it afterwards," MacIssac reported, noting some obstacles affecting the project. NDEs are rare and people having such profound experiences may not be in a state to notice these targets, she suggested. Nonetheless, there are people who have reported seeing things outside of their bodies that were later verified (related article), MacIssac added.

She detailed the remarkable case of Pam Reynolds, who underwent a unique procedure to treat a brain aneurysm that lowered her vitals until she was essentially clinically dead. During the operation she supposedly heard a surgeon talk about the size of her artery, MacIssac explained, pointing out Reynolds had molded ear plugs with speakers in her ears and could not hear what was going on in the operating room. Another interesting case involved a migrant worker who had a heart attack while visiting in Seattle. She claimed to have floated outside the hospital and saw a tennis shoe on a ledge, MacIssac revealed. The woman described the shoe in great detail and her story was confirmed when hospital staff recovered it, she noted. MacIssac also shared the findings of NDE researcher Dr. Jan Holden, who found 92% of apparent cases (where details can be verified) are accurate and only 1 in 93 cases are completely erroneous.

During Open Lines, several callers recounted their own near-death experiences. Eddie in Los Angeles, recalled details of an NDE he had five years ago after being struck in the head with a heavy metal object. Eddie described traveling through a memory tunnel, receiving a life review, and meeting with deceased relatives who told him to return to his body. Eddie credited the experience with changing his life for the better. Gregory from Shreveport, Louisiana, shared an NDE account that occurred after he was shot twice and taken by ambulance to a hospital. He remembered watching doctors rush into his room, roll his bed out and down the hallway, and a kid on a bench telling him he was dead. Gregory said he met with his deceased grandmother who told him to go back.

Margarete, a member of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) in Mesa, Arizona, phoned in to tell Richard about her lightning experience. Margarete said she was standing in front of a window with a screwdriver in hand when lightning hit the property. According to Margarete, the electrical bolt traveled through the window and struck her, burning her skin wherever she had jewelry. "It welded metal cabinets in the kitchen, and it blew all of the electricity out, and it blew nails out of the garage that wasn't attached, and it finally grounded out near a big LP gas tank that luckily was empty," she said.

George Galloway has been accused of making a disgraceful intervention in a House of Commons debate on Iraq when the Respect MP said Islamic State (Isis) was controlling an area the size of Britain because of a “quiescent” local population.

Ian Austin, the former Labour minister, challenged the veteran MP to justify his remarks after the enslavement of women by jihadis.

Galloway prompted the angriest exchanges of the debate when he told MPs: “Isil [Isis] itself is an imaginary army. A former defence secretary said we must bomb their bases. They don’t have any bases. The territory they control is the size of Britain and yet there are only between 10,000 and 20,000 of them. Do the maths.

“They don’t concentrate as an army. They don’t live in bases. The only way a force of that size could successfully hold the territory that they hold is if they have population which is acting as the water in which they are swimming.

There was a credibility problem, however. The man interviewed, 21-year-old Somali-Canadian Abu Usamah Somali, looked more like a tagger or wanna-be gangbanger from Toronto or Saskatoon than a serious terrorist. “We’ll sure be making attacks in New York soon [with Allah's permission]. A lot of brothers there are mobilizing right now [thanks to Allah],” said Abu, also known as Farah Shirdon.

“Gun-wielding teen girls from Europe join ISIS,” screamed the headline. It showed Sabina Selimovic and Samra Kesinovic smiling in what appeared to be high school yearbook shots. The Post dubbed the girls “the new face of jihad in Syria.”

“Kesinovic and Selimovic vanished from Austria earlier this year and paraded their terror involvement on social media, posting images of themselves holding AK47s as they stood among several armed men,” the tabloid reported. All of this lends credence to a National Institute of Mental Health study that shows the human brain is not fully developed until the age of 25. It’s al Qaeda deja vu time: while it is unclear if anyone will notice that the fearmongering was taken up several notches when the real terrorists are clearly attacking the S&P 500 with barbaric selling, moments ago the new, US-designated PM of Iraq, where hopes are high that this US puppet will behave better than the previous US figurehead, announced that the wrath of ISIS is about to be unleashed on the US.
