BITCOIN IS NOW A TAXABLE ASSET - IRS Says Bitcoins are Property and Not Currency : The Internal Revenue Service has determined that bitcoin will be treated as property, not currency. In its first big ruling on the virtual currency on Tuesday, the IRS said that bitcoin does not have "legal tender status." As a result of bitcoin being regarded as property, it can be treated as capital assets, governed by the same rules as stocks and bonds. In addition, the IRS said that people who receive wages in bitcoins would also be subject to federal income and payroll taxes.
Wading into a murky tax question for the digital age, the U.S. Internal
Revenue Service said on Tuesday that bitcoins and other virtual
currencies are to be treated, for tax purposes, as property and not as
currency.
"General tax principles that apply to property
transactions apply to transactions using virtual currency," the IRS said
in a statement, meaning that bitcoins would be taxed as ordinary income
or as assets subject to capital gains taxes, depending on the
circumstance.
Bitcoin, the best-known virtual currency, started
circulating in 2009. Its present market value is around $8 billion, with
up to 80,000 transactions occurring daily, according to accounting firm
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Recent incidents have brought the
currency under new regulatory scrutiny, such as the failure of Mt. Gox, a
Tokyo-based exchange that filed for bankruptcy after losing an
estimated $650 million worth of customer bitcoins.
Unlike
conventional money, bitcoin is generated by computers and is independent
of control or backing by any government or central bank, which its
proponents like, but which also has led to calls for more guidance on
U.S. tax treatment.
The IRS supplied that in its statement, which
dealt a blow to bitcoin "miners," who unlock new bitcoins online. The
IRS said miners must include the fair market value of the virtual
currency as gross income on the date of receipt.
This change "is a
disincentive to start looking for bitcoins," said John Barrie, a
partner with law firm Bryan Cave LLP, who advises charities that receive
bitcoins as donations.
NOT LEGAL TENDER
The IRS also said
that virtual currency is not to be treated as legal-tender currency to
determine if a transaction causes a foreign currency gain or loss under
U.S. tax law.
"The character of gain or loss from the sale or
exchange of virtual currency depends on whether the virtual currency is a
capital asset in the hands of the taxpayer," the IRS said.
However,
when virtual currency is held as inventory or other property mainly for
sale to customers in a trade or business, ordinary gains or losses are
generally incurred, the IRS said.
Capital gains and losses are taxable and deductible at different rates and amounts than ordinary gains and losses.
Democratic
Senator Tom Carper, who chaired a Senate committee hearing last year on
bitcoin, said in a statement that the IRS guidance "provides clarity
for taxpayers who want to ensure that they're doing the right thing and
playing by the rules when utilizing bitcoin and other digital
currencies."
A man who was traveling through Manchester, New
Hampshire was stopped and harassed by the TSA after he opted out of
going through a body scanner. The official reason for further
interrogation, according to the screeners, was "We saw Bitcoin in your
bag and need to check."
For anyone living under a
rock, Bitcoin is a virtual currency. It does not exist in physical form.
Saying you had seen bitcoin in a bag would be like saying you had seen
email in a bag -- it makes no sense.
Which is why Davi Barker, a
Libertarian blogger who was returning from the New Hampshire Liberty
Forum, was somewhat befuddled at the situation.
The Federal Reserve Board doesn't have the authority to regulate bitcoin, Fed Chair Janet Yellen said Thursday.
"To
the best of my knowledge, there's no intersection at all in any way
between bitcoin and banks the Federal Reserve has the ability to
supervise or regulate," Yellen told members of the Senate Banking
Committee. "The Federal Reserve simply does not have authority to
supervise or regulate bitcoin in any way."
Satoshi Nakamoto, the
alleged Bitcoin founder who was outed yesterday by Newsweek, did
classified work for the U.S. military and major corporations, a fact
that will sit uncomfortably with many Bitcoin proponents should it be
confirmed that Nakamoto is indeed the father of the cryptocurrency.

Wayne Madsen - NSA contractor reveals Obama's Crimean Hypocrisy
The situation in the Ukraine has resulted in the worst diplomatic crisis in American/Russian relations since the Cold War. Russian troops marched into Crimea, on orders of Vladimir Putin. In an election recently held on the peninsula, nearly 97 percent of voters voiced their support in favor of joining Russia. The Obama Administration and Putin began instituting a series of sanctions against the other nation. Each side banned lawmakers and other officials from the other country from travel. Further restrictions were placed on business in their territories.
Wayne Madsen is a former NSA contractor, a well-known investigative journalist and author. He writes about international affairs and intelligence.
He has produced several recent works on the crisis in the Ukraine. One article is titled "Independence Referenda Only Count when Washington and its Allies Say They Count." It questions the guidelines American lawmakers use to determine whether or not they will support a vote in another nation. In another article, the journalist claims the pledge of economic support for Ukrainian rebels is a violation of U.S. law.

Kiev Protest: Police Lit on Fire
Five protesters have died during an anti-government uprising in Kyiv, Ukraine which has waged on for over four days now.
The commotion has seemingly intensified upon news of the deaths, with the European Union threatening to punish Ukraine leaders for violently confronting the protesters and the U.S. government "strongly condemning" police violence.
Police instead relied on smoke and tear gas, rubber bullets, stun grenades, molotov cocktails and also water cannons.
An order banning police use of water cannons in sub-zero temperatures was also lifted, and as reported below, at least three tanks are awaiting departure from Chernihiv just north of Kyiv.
The protests supposedly stem from Ukraine President Vicktor Yanukovych's decision to refuse a European Union trade deal in favor of stronger economic ties with Russia.
As reported Monday, the protests have largely been organized by USAID, the CIA's National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Freedom House (which has also been alleged to be a CIA connected organization), and George Soros' Open Society Institute.
The rally, the biggest this year in a cycle of pro-Europe protests convulsing the former Soviet republic for the past two months, was spurred by the legislation rushed through parliament last week and which the opposition says will lead to a police state.
Significantly raising the stakes in the confrontation with President Viktor Yanukovich, opposition leaders announced a plan to gather people's signatures expressing no confidence in his leadership and that of parliament. peace

"Water cannons are being used by police to prevent mass disorders and violations, to repulse attacks on buildings and means of transport, regardless of their affiliation, to protect civilians and for self-defense," reads the amended decree.

Police have also been permitted to use smoke, tear gas and stun grenades. Law-enforcement bodies have received permission to restrict the movement of vehicles as well as temporarily prevent citizens' access to particular areas in the city.

The crackdown was launched on mid-day and followed a smaller police action in the morning in Grushchevskovo Street, in which they dismantled a protester barricade and retreated back to initial positions. A similar hit-and-retreat was performed the previous day.
The police advances probably came as no surprise. Earlier on Tuesday Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov warned that the authorities would use "force, as prescribed by the law," unless "the provocateurs stop."

According to latest casualty reports from the Interior Ministry, 195 officers have been injured during the entire period of scuffles, including 84, who had to be admitted to hospitals. There were no immediate accurate reports about the number of injured among the opposition.
The crackdown on the opposition comes after two deaths were confirmed among their ranks overnight. Both of the victims suffered fatal traumatic wounds, according to Kiev's chief doctor, Vitaly Mokhorev. Their bodies were brought to a volunteer medical post in Khrushchevskovo Street.
"Law enforcement do not carry firearms there," spokesman Sergey Burlakov said.
Rumors on the internet alleged that one of the victims was killed by a sniper, but there was no evidence provided to substantiate this assertion.

Innocent motif or occult display of power?
World leaders at this week's Nuclear Security Summit wore bizarre illuminati pyramid lapel pins while gathered around a giant eye with a floating holographic pyramid suspended above.
Interestingly enough, President Barack Obama was one of the few world leaders not to wear the pyramid symbol.
Is the symbol an innocent motif designed to express unity around the issue of nuclear security, or does it represent an occult display of power?
During the Nuclear Security Summit, which was held on March 24th and 25th in the Netherlands, Reuters captured video of presidents and prime ministers from all over the world wearing a very peculiar pyramid-shaped pin. Those that have studied secret societies and the occult know that the unholy pyramid is a very dark symbol that represents some of the deepest secrets of the elite. When it shows up in a very public forum like an international summit meeting, it is usually not by accident. As I will discuss below, thanks to Freemasons we even find this highly occult symbol on the back of all one dollar bills. Of course the cover story is that all of these world leaders were wearing pyramids to support "nuclear security", kind of like if you want to support breast cancer you pin a little pink ribbon to your jacket. And you never know -- perhaps that is all that this was. But when I watched this video for the first time my jaw just about hit the floor. Nuclear terrorism is officially the main topic for world leaders at a two-day summit in the Netherlands starting Monday. In practice, the Ukraine crisis will likely overshadow those talks. The Nuclear Security Summit in the Hague will form the backdrop for an emergency meeting of Group of Seven leaders on Russia's annexation of Crimea. It's a confrontation between Russia and the West reminiscent of the Cold War.

And I find it interesting that at this same summit, Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping and most of the rest of the world leaders played a "nuclear war game"... The game took place at the nuclear summit at The Hague and included dozens of other heads of state. It required leaders to respond to the scenario of a terrorist attack with a "dirty bomb" in a big Western city. Leaders had to answer a series of questions on how they would respond to the attack as the game progressed and new challenges arose. Roosevelt, as he looked at the colored reproduction of the Seal, was first struck with the representation of the "All Seeing Eye," a Masonic representation of The Great Architect of the Universe. Next he was impressed with the idea that the foundation for the new order of the ages had been laid in 1776, but that it would be completed only under the eye of the Great Architect. Roosevelt like myself was a 32nd degree Mason. He suggested that the Seal be put on the dollar bill rather than a coin and took the matter up with the Secretary of the Treasury. He brought it up in a Cabinet meeting* and asked James Farley [Postmaster General and a Roman Catholic] if he thought the Catholics would have any objection to the "All Seeing Eye" which he as a Mason looked on as a Masonic symbol of Deity. The Future, Surveillance, Privacy, and the Transparent Society -- David Brin, Ph.D. Veritas Radio
David Brin discussed how 2014 might be the real start of the 21st Century and how the planet may be on the cusp of a brighter future. He noted that, in the last 60 years, violence has "plummeted every decade," despite how it is portrayed in the media. In fact, he argued that the relentless depiction of violence, as well as poverty, has fueled the public to "feel bad" about these issues and take steps to improve them. He also credited the sacrifices of the "Greatest Generation" for helping to create the wealth which allowed subsequent generations to be able to focus on solving social issues. Reflecting on the journey of the human race over the last sixty years, Brin marveled that, despite humanity's foibles, "we are capable of beginning to get things right."
That said, he warned that "self-righteous indignation" has become an addiction that is gripping America and is worse that "heroin, cocaine, and alcohol combined." Brin explained that the thrill derived from being sanctimonious was beneficial in previous years when warfare was more commonplace, but has become crippling to the psyche of the modern population and has given rise to an "outrage industry" which fuels political polarization. "If you're constantly returning to the sense of pleasure that you get from being so right," he cautioned, "there is a real chance that you're a junkie." He blamed this paradigm for causing the death of negotiation and the inability to spawn conversations about problems which "could easily be solved if we just talked to each other."
One positive aspect of this institutionalized self-righteousness, he said, is that "you create an atmosphere of suspicion of authority" which can lead to whistleblowers speaking out against what they see as unjust actions by the government. Regarding recent whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning, Brin observed that most of their revelations were of actions that were actually not illegal, but spawned discussion over "whether or not these things should be legal." Ultimately, he pointed to such conversations, aimed at finding a middle ground, as the key to overcoming the obstacles which still challenge the country. Brin suggested that listening and acknowledging the opposite viewpoints of our political adversaries could lead to a society where people realize that "it's a complicated world and we're going to have to guard each other's backs."

Moyers was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, to father John Henry Moyers, a laborer, and mother Ruby Moyers (née Johnson). He grew up in Texas.
He started his journalism career at sixteen as a cub reporter at the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas. In college, he studied journalism at the North Texas State College in Denton, Texas. In 1954, then-U.S. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson employed him as a summer intern and eventually promoted him to manage Johnson's personal mail. Soon after, Moyers transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas, where he wrote for The Daily Texan newspaper. In 1956, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. While in Austin, Moyers served as assistant news editor for KTBC radio and television stations—owned by Lady Bird Johnson, wife of then-Senator Johnson. During the academic year 1956--1957, he studied issues of church and state at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland as a Rotary International Fellow. In 1959, he completed a Master of Divinity degree at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Moyers served as Director of Information while attending SWBTS. He was also a Baptist pastor in Weir, Texas.
Moyers was ordained in 1954. Moyers planned to enter a doctor of philosophy program in American Studies at the University of Texas. During Senator Johnson's unsuccessful bid for the 1960 Democratic U.S. presidential nomination, Moyers served as a top aide, and in the general campaign he acted as liaison between Democratic vice-presidential candidate Johnson and the Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy.[3]
During the Kennedy Administration, Moyers was first appointed as associate director of public affairs for the newly created Peace Corps in 1961. He served as Deputy Director from 1962 to 1963. When Lyndon B. Johnson took office after the Kennedy assassination, Moyers became a special assistant to Johnson, serving from 1963 to 1967. He played a key role in organizing and supervising the 1964 Great Society legislative task forces and was a principal architect of Johnson's 1964 presidential campaign. Moyers acted as the President's informal chief of staff from October 1964 until 1966. From July 1965 to February 1967, he also served as White House press secretary.[3]
After the resignation of White House Chief of Staff Walter Jenkins because of a sexual misdemeanor in the run up to the 1964 election, President Lyndon B. Moyers was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, to father John Henry Moyers, a laborer, and mother Ruby Moyers (née Johnson). He grew up in Texas.
He started his journalism career at sixteen as a cub reporter at the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas. In college, he studied journalism at the North Texas State College in Denton, Texas. In 1954, then-U.S. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson employed him as a summer intern and eventually promoted him to manage Johnson's personal mail. He was also a Baptist pastor in Weir, Texas.
Moyers was ordained in 1954. Moyers planned to enter a doctor of philosophy program in American Studies at the University of Texas. During Senator Johnson's unsuccessful bid for the 1960 Democratic U.S. presidential nomination, Moyers served as a top aide, and in the general campaign he acted as liaison between Democratic vice-presidential candidate Johnson and the Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy.[3]
During the Kennedy Administration, Moyers was first appointed as associate director of public affairs for the newly created Peace Corps in 1961. He served as Deputy Director from 1962 to 1963. Wading into a murky tax question for the digital age, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service said on Tuesday that bitcoins and other virtual currencies are to be treated, for tax purposes, as property and not as currency.
"General tax principles that apply to property transactions apply to transactions using virtual currency," the IRS said in a statement, meaning that bitcoins would be taxed as ordinary income or as assets subject to capital gains taxes, depending on the circumstance.
Bitcoin, the best-known virtual currency, started circulating in 2009. Its present market value is around $8 billion, with up to 80,000 transactions occurring daily, according to accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Recent incidents have brought the currency under new regulatory scrutiny, such as the failure of Mt. Gox, a Tokyo-based exchange that filed for bankruptcy after losing an estimated $650 million worth of customer bitcoins.
Unlike conventional money, bitcoin is generated by computers and is independent of control or backing by any government or central bank, which its proponents like, but which also has led to calls for more guidance on U.S. tax treatment.
The IRS supplied that in its statement, which dealt a blow to bitcoin "miners," who unlock new bitcoins online. The IRS said miners must include the fair market value of the virtual currency as gross income on the date of receipt.
This change "is a disincentive to start looking for bitcoins," said John Barrie, a partner with law firm Bryan Cave LLP, who advises charities that receive bitcoins as donations.
NOT LEGAL TENDER
The IRS also said that virtual currency is not to be treated as legal-tender currency to determine if a transaction causes a foreign currency gain or loss under U.S. tax law.
"The character of gain or loss from the sale or exchange of virtual currency depends on whether the virtual currency is a capital asset in the hands of the taxpayer," the IRS said.
However, when virtual currency is held as inventory or other property mainly for sale to customers in a trade or business, ordinary gains or losses are generally incurred, the IRS said.
Capital gains and losses are taxable and deductible at different rates and amounts than ordinary gains and losses.
Democratic Senator Tom Carper, who chaired a Senate committee hearing last year on bitcoin, said in a statement that the IRS guidance "provides clarity for taxpayers who want to ensure that they're doing the right thing and playing by the rules when utilizing bitcoin and other digital currencies."

ALASKA TO BE RETURNED TO RUSSIA - 24,000 People Make a White House Petition
Sarah Palin may become a Russian citizen if a WhiteHouse.gov petition gains enough traction. A petition on the website calling for Alaska to be returned to Russia has so far gained over 20,000 signatures. If it reaches 100,000 by April 20, the White House must issue an official response.
A petition that seeks to put Alaska back under Russian control has garnered more than 18,000 signatures in just a few days — about a fifth of what's needed to capture a formal White House look.
The petition, called "Alaska Back to Russia," was created by a resident of Anchorage who declined to list his name, but instead gave only the initials of S.V., United Press International reported.
The petition was first circulated last week and so far, it's garnered more than 18,000 signatures. If a total of 100,000 sign on by April 20, the Obama administration will supposedly issue a formal response.
The petition — a bit grammatically challenged — nonetheless states: "Groups Siberian Russians crossed the Isthmus (now the Bering Strait) 16-10 thousand years ago. Russian began to settle on the Arctic coast, Aleuts inhabited the Aleutian Archipelago. First visited Alaska August 21, 1732, members of the team boat St. Gabriel under the surveyor Gvozdev and assistant navigator I. Fedorov during the expedition Shestakov and DI Pavlutski 1729-1735 years ... Vote for secession of Alaska from the United States and joining Russia."
The United States purchased Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million in 1867.
A similar petition from Texas that sought secession from the United States received more than 100,000 signatures, UPI reported. Then, the White House responded: "Our founding fathers established the Constitution of the United States 'in order to form a more perfect union' through the hard and frustrating but necessary work of self government. They enshrined in that document the right to change our national government through the power of the ballot — a right that generations of Americans have fought to secure for all. But they did not provide a right to walk away from it."
Originally organized as the Department of Alaska, the area was renamed the District of Alaska and the Alaska Territory before becoming the modern state of Alaska upon being admitted to the Union as a state in 1959

Malaysia Flight 370 Did NOT Crash!
Since day 1 of the Malaysia Flight 370, the whole story didn't seem right. They have yet to find this airplane and many steps along the way have began to stink of a cover-up.
1. The debris hasn't been found.
2. The plane continued to broadcast.
3. There is no evidence of a crash.

The housing market is imploding, prices and sales are falling as
mortgage apps are at an all time low. The BRICS nations are rejected the
sanctions on Russia and then are downgraded by S&P. Russia is
making deals with China and India excluding the US dollar. The President
is worried about a nuclear detonation in NY than the Ukraine situation.
Israel is now making a deal with China to use a rail-link instead of
