Japanese officials say three Chinese ships have entered the disputed
waters near the Tokyo-controlled islands in the East China Sea.
They say Chinese coastguard vessels sailed into the territorial waters off one of the Senkaku islands-- which China calls the Diaoyus. The ships are reported to have left about two hours later. Chinese state-owned ships and aircraft have approached the area on and off to demonstrate Beijing's territorial claims. Tensions have grown since Japan nationalized some of the islands in September 2012, which led to China announcing an air identification zone in the East China Sea.

Former Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Sha Zukang has warned
that the dispute between Japan and China over the Senkaku Islands could
lead to World War III.

Citing a Chinese-language piece written by Zukang for the the pro-regime Global Times, a report in the China Times says that Zukang warned of the futility of going to war over "those two tiny rocks," a reference to the disputed islands which have become the center of a geopolitical tug of war between China and Japan, with the United States and South Korea also becoming embroiled.
"If China started a war with Japan, it would be much larger than both the Sino-Japanese War and World War II, said Sha. The United States and Japan should cooperate with China to maintain regional peace," states the report.
Zukang's rhetoric sounds somewhat alarmist but it is not that different in tone from sober analysts such as Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, who warned that the escalating crisis represents a "watershed moment for the world" and means "Asia is on the cusp of a full-blown arms race."

The mid-November hearing, “Beyond Silk Road—Potential Threats, Risks and Promises of Virtual Currency,” explored the positives and negatives for the federal government and society related to currencies that have been created in electronic format on the Internet.
Carper, who described virtual currencies as “digital cash that can be used and transferred nearly anonymously,” added in a press release that this monetary technology “presents some new and unique risks, but with it . . . great potential. The federal government and society as a whole need to come together to figure out how to effectively deal with it.”
Witnesses at the November hearing included representatives of the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and private industry representatives including the Bitcoin Foundation and the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children.
Bitcoin has become increasingly popular on the Internet. It is electronic currency that has been created using complicated computer programs and cannot be forged or counterfeited.

Until recently, any mention of deaths relating to pollution was strictly censored.
