Gilad Atzmon -- Gaza Mon Amour

Gaza Mon Amour - Gilad Atzmon talks about his gig cancelled due to pro-Israel group 'blitz'

Gilad Atzmon, world famous jazz saxophonist who has performed alongside everyone from Ian Dury to David Bowie to Pink Floyd, talks to Going Underground host Afshin Rattansi about being pulled from a gig due to complaints from a pro-Israeli lobby groups. He says the venue was 'blitzed with a lot of extremist and threatening messages,' describing it as shocking that as we send troops to fight terror abroad, this can be happening in Manchester. He thinks that it's a 'big concern' that the first track on the album is called Gaza Mon Amour, and they don't want artists to 'express any views that may interfere with their hegemony.' He questions the amount of power that lobby groups like AIPAC or the Conservative Friends of Israel have. The venue cited 'safety concerns' over their students, but he says that if the group is 'terrorising you and your 800 students, this is not an issue with Gilad Atzmon’s gig, this is a national security issue.'
