NATO backs ISIS in Libya and fights it in Syria

This week is the third anniversary of Britain’s war with Libya and the overthrow and assassination of Colonel Gaddafi. Under Gaddafi, one of the poorest nations in Africa rose to have the highest GDP per capita and life expectancy on the continent, with fewer people living in poverty than in the Netherlands. Now, its economy is destroyed after oil production stopped, and rival militias fighting over large chunks of the country. The British-backed Prime Minister of Libya, Abdullah Al-Thanni, is currently fighting the ISIS-affiliated Libyan Dawn, and has accused UK ally Qatar of supporting the group. But then the Emir of Qatar is friends with Israel, Britain’s strongest ally in the region. Does this explain why we are friends with countries backing ISIS?
