Collapse, directed by Chris Smith, is an American documentary film exploring the theories, writings and life story of controversial author Michael Ruppert. Collapse premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2009 to positive reviews.

Ruppert, a former Los Angeles police officer who describes himself as an investigative reporter and radical thinker, has authored books on the events of the September 11 attacks and of energy issues. Critics[who?] call him a conspiracy theorist and an alarmist.
Director Smith interviewed Ruppert over the course of fourteen hours in an interrogation-like setting in an abandoned warehouse basement meat locker near downtown Los Angeles. Ruppert's interview was shot over five days throughout March and April 2009. The filmmakers distilled these interviews down to this 82 minute monologue with archival footage interspersed as illustration.
The title refers to Ruppert's belief that unsustainable energy and financial policies have led to an ongoing collapse of modern industrial civilization.
The film does not overtly take a perspective on the validity of Ruppert's positions[citation needed] and critics have alternatingly described the film as supportive and as critical of Ruppert's views. Smith himself, speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere, said that "What I hoped to reveal was ... that his obsession with the collapse of industrial civilization has led to the collapse of his life. In the end, it is a character study about his obsession."[1]

"If we did not have these programs, we simply would not be able to listen in on the bad guys," Chambliss said, in a direct reference to increasing debate over widespread spying of all Americans revealed by Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian. "Nobody has ever questioned or disputed that the U.S. government, like all governments around the world, ought to be eavesdropping and monitoring the conversations of people who pose an actual threat to the United States in terms of plotting terrorist attacks," Greenwald says.

Pointing to the recent revelations by leaker Edward Snowden that he has reported on, Greenwald explains, "Here we are in the midst of one of the most intense debates and sustained debates that we've had in a very long time in this country over the dangers of excess surveillance, and suddenly, an administration that has spent two years claiming that it has decimated al-Qaeda decides that there is this massive threat that involves the closing of embassies and consulates around the world. ... The controversy is over the fact that they are sweeping up billions and billions of emails and telephone calls every single day from people around the world and in the United States who have absolutely nothing to do with terrorism." The terror threat prompting the U.S. government to close nearly two dozen embassies and consulates Sunday is the most specific, credible threat information in years, CBS News senior correspondent John Miller reports.

Intelligence officers have reporting from a reliable source that a major plot is under way and that the team to carry it out has been selected and is in place, Miller reports.

The threat information has been described as the most specific and credible since the foiled plot to blow up British planes en route to the United States in 2006, Miller reports. The specificity ends there.

What authorities don't have is the date, the timing or the target of the attack, which is why they have taken such an approach to warning potential targets, Miller reports.

The threat has prompted the U.S. to issue a global travel alert to all Americans for the first time since the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

White House officials said President Obama was briefed Saturday morning on the potential terrorist threat before departing for Camp David, CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues reports.

News correspondent calls worldwide terror alert a "terrible reminder for Americans that we are still major targets"

The State Department has issued a worldwide alert warning Americans overseas that a terrorist "plot is underway."

The U.S. government plans to shut down more than 20 embassies and consulates, the most to be closed since 9/11.

BBC News reports, "The U.S. intercepted al-Qaeda messages" and has "issued a separate global security alert, citing jail breaks linked to al-Qaeda in nine countries."

Martha Raddatz, an ABC News Chief Global Affairs correspondent, calls the alert a "terrible reminder for Americans that we are still major targets."

Correspondents pointed out that the terror alert is "unusually broad and covers travel for Americans across the globe."

Americans have been warned to be cautious when visiting tourist sites and while using public transportation.

In a statement issued by the State Department officials warned, "Terrorists may use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests."

The warning is set to remain in effect until the end of August.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, the Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff told ABC News, "It is an al-Qaeda affiliated threat. It is of the al-Qaeda branch."

Gen. Dempsey says the specific target is unknown, however the "intent is clear to attack Western, not just U.S. interests."
ABC News says the threat is believed to be coming from Yemen and told correspondents it's the same region where "Anwar Al-Awlaki, a radical American cleric, directed terrorists attacks."

This is the same Anwar al-Awlaki that dined at the Pentagon a few months after the 9/11 attack and was later killed by a drone strike in 2011.

In 2012, Infowars reported, "American-born cleric Awlaki's role as a key figure in almost every recent terror plot targeting the United States and Canada, coupled with his visit to the Pentagon, only confirms our long stated position that Awlaki is a chief terrorist patsy-handler for the CIA -- he is the federal government's premier false flag agent," Paul Joseph Watson wrote.

Officials believe the latest plot could involve multiple targets both in and outside of Yemen.

CBS News reports, "Britain will close its embassy in Yemen and has urged all its citizens to leave the country."

ABC News Chief Global Affairs correspondent warns Americans to avoid local events like "demonstrations," and also encourages travelers to enroll in the "Smart Travel Enrollment Program (STEP)."

According to the government's website, STEP is a "free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country."

STEP also allows Americans residing abroad to get routine information from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

The program's app sends you emails and texts about possible new security advisories.

Peter King as "very specific." The meeting, that took place on Saturday afternoon, was chaired by National Security Advisor Susan Rice with the Principals Committee to "further review the situation and follow-up actions," according to the White House.
Among those at the meeting Saturday afternoon were the secretaries of state, defense and homeland security and the directors of the FBI and CIA. Rice then joined Lisa Monaco, President Obama's assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, in briefing the president, the White House said in a statement.
"The president has received frequent briefings over the last week on all aspects of the potential threat and our preparedness measures," according to the statement.
The travel alert was the first of its kind since an announcement preceding the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It came as Washington prepared to close its embassies and consulates throughout the Muslim world this Sunday over security concerns.
U.S. officials have not offered many details on the nature of the threat, but apparently are taking it seriously.
On Friday, the threat was described by Rep. Peter King, chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, as "very specific."
"We're not certain exactly where something might happen but it's very specific as to when and it's also very specific as to the fact that it is going to happen, so we have to be on alert everywhere," the New York Republican told WINS-AM.

Because most of them were living on the financial edge, millions of them also lost their homes. Unfortunately, most Americans seem convinced that it will not happen again. Right now we seem to be living in a "hope bubble" and people have become very complacent. For a while there, being a "prepper" was very trendy, but now concern about a coming economic crisis seems to have subsided. What a tragic mistake. As I pointed out yesterday, our entire financial system is a giant Ponzi scheme, and there are already signs that our financial markets are about to implode once again. When Will America Collapse?

Above is the second question that I'm regularly asked. Again I give a simple answer: We've already started to collapse.

If you're under age 30, you know what I mean. Adequate jobs for the under 30 crowd are non-existent. America sticks brilliant minds, holding quality degrees, with jobs like stacking merchandise at Walmart (WMT) or slinging hash at Denny's (DENN). The young people I know have had great difficulty getting jobs in their chosen field -- if they get a job at all. Don't believe me? Talk to the under-30 crowd near you and I think you'll find I'm right.

This is due to our government's policy of de-industrialization. America has slowly liquidated our manufacturing capabilities along with our wealth. And now the world's richest 1% control 39% of all the planetary wealth.

In contrast, the bottom 50% of people controls just 1% of the world's money in aggregate. The worldwide financial and political system now delivers and funnels the riches to the very pinnacle of the wealthiest people.

In the long-term, the U.S. dollar is going to lose a tremendous amount of value and inflation is going to absolutely skyrocket. That is one reason why so many people are investing very heavily in gold, silver and other precious metals. All over the globe, the central banks of the world are recklessly printing money. Everyone knows that this is going to end very badly. In fact, there is already a push in more than a dozen U.S. states to allow gold and silver coins to be used as legal tender. Someday you will be glad that you invested in gold and silver now while their prices were still low.

For many people, this is simply not possible. Many Americans are still completely and totally dependent on their jobs. But if you are able, now is a good time to move away from the big cities. When the next major economic downturn strikes, there will be rioting and a dramatic rise in crime in the major cities. If you are able to move to a more rural area you will probably be in much better shape.

Without water, you would not even make it a few days in an emergency situation. It is imperative that you have a plan to provide clean drinking water for your family when disaster strikes.
