2/7/13 - After writing last night about how Bill O'Reilly erroneously claimed NBC has ignored the drone strike Justice Department memo that NBC actually released, I was looking forward to seeing how O'Reilly could possibly explain away his claim tonight. Well, at the tail end of his program tonight, O'Reilly responded to the criticism by 1) attacking his critics, and 2) denying he said... what he said.
TVNewser was "tipped off" to the fact that O'Reilly would be responding tonight., and boy, did he respond in true O'Reilly fashion. He sighed as he explained how he has succumbed to "more deceit from the far left," saying that "these loons have been trying to marginalize me" ever since he's been on the air. He explained why he wasn't so incredibly wrong about NBC News not covering the story, even though they broke it. "Last night, I talked with Bob Beckel about the difference in analysis on the subject of waterboarding as compared to killing people with drones... I put forth that NBC News and other media places, they were hysterical over waterboarding, but muted over President Obama's drone attacks, at least until yesterday. "Immediately the far-left machine cranked up. 'O'Reilly didn't say that NBC News broke the drone memo story. He's a deceiver!' True. I didn't say NBC broke the memo story because we weren't talking about that. Waterboarding versus drone strikes. So once again, we have a propaganda campaign designed to make ignorant people on the left even more ignorant."

So Bill O'Reilly's defense is basically "I never said NBC News broke the story because I wasn't talking about whether or not they covered it, but HOW MUCH they covered it." Which would be acceptable, were it not for that fact that he actually DID insist at various points that they have said nothing, nada, zip about drones.

Anonymous Hacks into Federal Reserve

As officials in Washington continue to discuss and warn about cyber-attacks, members of Anonymous claimed to have breached a computer system that the Federal Reserve uses to communicate with bankers in emergencies such as natural disasters and potential acts of terrorism. On Super Bowl Sunday, members of the group tweeted that they had compromised 4,000 bankers' credentials from the Federal Reserve.
"Now we have your attention America: Anonymous's [sic] Superbowl Commercial 4k banker d0x via the FED," the group tweeted, using the @OpLastResort handle on Twitter.
"The Federal Reserve System is aware that information was obtained by exploiting a temporary vulnerability in a website vendor product," A Federal Reserve spokesman said in a statement.
"The exposure was fixed shortly after discovery and is no longer an issue. This incident did not affect critical operations of the Federal Reserve System," the spokesman said.
According to officials, the user data from the Emergency Communications System was compromised, but no financial or monetary policy information was on the system that was breached.
According to federal law enforcement officials, the FBI has opened an investigation into the incident. An FBI spokesperson declined to comment.
Recent activity from Anonymous and the reference to Operation Last Resort concern the death of Aaron Swartz, an Internet developer and activist who started the website Reddit. Swartz was indicted by the Justice Department in July 2011 on charges of wire fraud, computer fraud, unlawfully obtaining information from a protected computer and recklessly damaging a protected computer.
Swartz allegedly had downloaded vast information from JSTOR, an online library of academic and scholarly journals and articles that are available for a fee. Swartz believed the articles in JSTOR should be disseminated free of charge. Swartz committed suicide on Jan. 11, 2013 as he believed he was going to be facing a lengthy prison term -- possibly as much as 35 years.
Last month, Anonymous hacked the website of the United States Sentencing Commission, also in response to Swartz's death.
The case has garnered the attention of Congress, with members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee writing to Attorney General Eric Holder about how the Justice Department handled the case.
The Justice Department has agreed to brief the committee on the Swartz prosecution, but no date has been set on the briefing, according to a Justice official.

In the first half, investigative reporter Russ Baker spoke about the odd string of "coincidental" historical anniversaries coming up this week that tie in with President Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex (MIC). The MIC refers to the relationship between government, a nation's armed forces, and the industrial firms that supply their equipment. Fifty years ago, on January 17, 1961, Eisenhower warned about the MIC: "We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes."

Eisenhower sensed the problems inherent in the relationship between military and industry, Baker explained, noting how the enterprise serves those involved and does not make the country any safer. He made connections to several anniversaries, including Martin Luther King Day, and the inaugurations of George W. Bush and John F. Kennedy. According to Baker, JFK saw increasing problems with the MIC apparatus, as it was unaccountable, irresponsible, and incompetent. Baker also referenced the recent mysterious death of former pentagon official John Wheeler, as well as Jared Lee Loughner's alleged shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona.

The talk is big now after the Newtown Connecticut Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 children and the anti-gun crowd is coming out of the woodwork right now. Anti-gun politicians like Feinstein think their arbitrary inclusion of certain characteristics of a weapon actually constitute a "military style" weapon, therefore there is some kind of danger to society if these guns are sold to the public. But when you consider that a simple pistol grip on a rifle, or a flash suppressor, or a bayonet mount, or a telescoping stock amongst a few other very simple criteria makes an assault weapon in the eyes of those that hate the second amendment, you can see that we really are in danger of losing our right to bear arms as guaranteed by the the United States Constitution. If you read the summary of Feinstein's proposed assault weapons ban on her website which I will link to below, you begin to realize how dangerous this really is. It states right in the first part that it will "Ban the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:...certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics." That means if you have a hand gun that that accepts a detachable magazine and has one other military characteristic, it is an assault weapon and it will be illegal to own under this proposed law. So, you liberals still think they aren't coming for our guns?

He described one possible scenario in which North Korea launches a missile to knock out space satellites. This could also involve an electromagnetic pulse that damages circuitry on the ground, greatly affecting Americans ability to use ATM and credit cards. Such an attack is "like pouring molasses on society-- everything slows down," he said.

Continuing the scenario, Iran could take advantage of America's satellite loss by launching a nuclear-tipped missile at Israel, and terrorist cells could "spoof" GPS signals to cause airline crashes, he detailed. While no one wants to take the U.S. on in a conventional war, the country is vulnerable to space and cyberspace attacks, and has a lack of policy and infrastructure in dealing with such "asymmetric warfare," he warned.

2/4/13 - When Ted Nugent sat down with Piers Morgan in Texas tonight, he delivered the CNN host his most explosive interview since last month's showdown with Alex Jones. Morgan began by asking Nugent to explain to him, "in the least inflammatory way possible" why Americans need the AR-15 assault rifle. When Nugent began talking about the millions of Americans who own guns and have "never caused a problem, never had an accident and will never commit a crime," Morgan responded by listing off the number of gun murders and suicides each year in this country. "Do you care about murders?" Nugent asked. "Or do you only care about about murders with guns?" Morgan answered, "I care about all death." "I don't think you do," Nugent shot back. "I think you care about guns. You're obsessed with guns." He then went off on a tear that summed up his and many other gun advocates' position: "99.99% of the gun owners of America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with here today. Perfectly safe. Perfectly harmless. Wonderful, loving, generous, giving, caring people. Would you leave us the hell alone? Go after the nut jobs, go after the murderers, because I don't know any. We need to lock up the bad guys and when people show dangerous, murderous intent, which everyone one of these mass murderers showed — all their neighbors, their family, their teachers, their fellow students, they all knew they were crazy but, Piers, we didn't stop them because we're worried about hurting their feelings. And when Morgan brought up that Nugent already accepts some limits to the second amendment by accepting that he cannot have an "armored tank" outside his house, Nugent responded, "Are you sure about that?"
