U.S. REFUGEE SITUATION - U.S. Explains Refugee Screening and Admissions Into the United States

 
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) separated himself on Tuesday from some of the absolutist refugee positions being offered by his Republican presidential rivals.

During an interview with Politics, Bush said "if there's any kind of concern," refugees should not be allowed in.

"But I don't think we should eliminate our support for refugees. It's been a noble tradition in our country," he added.

Bush also expressed empathy for people who are "legitimately concerned about ... the competency of the Obama administration as it relates to screening processes."

After last week's in Paris, a wide swath of Republicans stated their vociferous opposition to the US accepting any refugees fleeing the violence in. A slew of governors said they would try to stop any refugees from entering their states, but it is not clear they have the legal authority to do so.

Tekoa Da Silva: Marc, I had the chance to sit down with you a year and a half ago. At that time you said, “emerging economies will be submerging soon.”
Since then, we’ve seen emerging market equity indexes down, emerging market currencies down against the dollar, and China’s yuan devaluation—which you also talked about during that interview.
What are your thoughts on where we are currently?


Marc Faber: Well, I’m glad that you say I’ve been right about something, because whenever I’m on CNBC or Bloomberg, they always put me down about everything.
But yes, I wasn’t very optimistic about emerging economies at that time and I think I’m still cautious but I have to qualify these statements.
Basically, most of the world today economically depends on Chinese economic growth. When China is growing rapidly, they buy a lot of resources from the resource-producing economies of the world. Whether it’s in Latin America, Africa, Australasia, Central Asia, Russia—they also have a boom, and then they buy more goods from the industrialized countries of the world. So the whole global economy picks up in that context.
On the other hand, when China slows down, everything goes into reverse and you have essentially a vicious circle on the down side.
My sense is that the global economy is not as the Federal Reserve and other groups expect it to be in terms of accelerating on the upside, but actually that it’s in contracting mode and let me explain partly why.
If the Japanese and the Europeans pursue very expansionary monetary policies, it means that those currencies go down against the US dollar. So in dollar terms, their economic activity shrinks. As their currencies go down and economic activity shrinks in dollar terms, they buy less goods also. So then the global economy contracts.

 Police brutality video explanation:
US. San Francisco, CA - The Alameda County sheriff launched an investigation Friday after a video showing two deputies tackling and beating a man on the ground in San Francisco’s Mission District went public, raising questions whether there was an excessive use of force.

The San Francisco Public Defender’s office released the video Friday night after witnesses to the arrest contacted them with concerns. Public Defender Jeff Adachi said the two deputies clearly used excessive force in an encounter that was “reminiscent of Rodney King.”

The video shows the deputies chasing after a man at the corner of Clinton Park and Stevenson Street at about 2:05 a.m. Thursday. One deputy jumps on the man, knocking him down, and goes on to punch him twice while he was still on the ground.

He gets off as the second deputy pulls out his baton, and uses it to strike the man on the head. The video jumps 10 seconds to both deputies using their batons on the man as he struggled on his knees and screamed for help.

The video jumps once more to show the man on his knees with his hands on his head, and one deputy pushing him to the ground so he and the other deputy could continue hitting him with their batons.

Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, said the encounter captured on video was the culmination of a 38-minute car chase from the East Bay.

“We’ve seen these high probabilities for Fed rate hikes all year long. This is nothing new. Several months before the Fed is supposed to raise rates, everybody believes they’re about to do it. Then something generally happens between then and the time the Fed is supposed to pull the trigger, and then the Fed has an excuse why they don’t move. If you look at the economic data that has come out recently – again, it’s all been bad. Other than that better-than-expected jobs number that we got, all the rest of the economic data has pretty much been worse than expected. And how do we know what the revisions are going to be to that jobs report? These numbers are notoriously revised, so it may not be as good as was originally reported. We still are going to get the November jobs number that comes out in early December. That may be bad. There’s a lot of news that could come out. Of course, the jobs numbers are backward looking. A recession doesn’t start because of layoffs. Layoffs typically result from a recession. All of the other economic data points are flashing recession. So it doesn’t make any sense if the Fed is going to be looking in the rearview mirror to try to formulate monetary policy and ignoring everything they see in the windshield. I still think the Fed is more likely going to punt again, not raise interest rates. Maybe they’ll even blame it on the terrorist events happening in Europe. That may allow them to pretend that their decision has nothing to do with the US economy. And maybe people will buy it again. But with the dollar rallying, commodity prices falling, the Fed has another reason to say, ‘You know, inflation is still too low. We don’t have our inflation goal.’ So they can easily get away without raising rates in December…
