BILL GATES on Global Wealth Inequality

 When the great and the good met at last year's Davos event to discuss the major global challenges to prosperity and well-being, it was clear that one theme dominated all others – inequality.

But has anything changed since then? Before last year's event, Oxfam found that 85 people have as much wealth as half of the world. This year that figure has been updated to just 80.

The decision by the European Central Bank to begin €1.14 trillion quantitative easing (QE) program will eventually reinforce inequality within Europe and have serious political consequences, billionaire George Soros told RT in Davos.

“Excessive reliance on monetary policy and attempts to enrich the owners of property will not relieve the downward pressure on wages,” said Soros to a question from RT during a news conference in Davos. He says it’s too early to react to QE measures in Europe, but they will clearly deepen the crisis of trust between the rich and the poor. The World Economic Forum in Davos has long been criticized by experts and social organizations, as many of them believe the world’s most rich and powerful people, who are actually behind the current crisis, are gathering at a super expensive forum while the world is tanking.

The evidence that large income differences have damaging health and social consequences is very strong and in many countries inequality is increasing. Narrowing the gap is vital to improve our health and well-being. We just need those meeting in Davos to recognise this and act.

Companies and U.S. citizens shifting profits and income offshore are bilking the U.S. government out of $100 billion in tax revenue a year, according to a new analysis by a congressional research group.
Those using offshore tax havens to skirt paying taxes cost the U.S. government “around $100 billion per year,” according to the Congressional Research Service (CRS), which examined in a new report the many ways in which people cheat the government.
“This activity appears to have increased substantially in recent years,” the report notes.
“The federal government loses both individual and corporate income tax revenue from the shifting of profits and income into low-tax countries,” researchers found. “The revenue losses from this tax avoidance and evasion are difficult to estimate, but some have suggested that the annual cost of offshore tax abuses may be around $100 billion per year.”

Bill Gates is now promoting “digital currency” in third-world countries, which will make the poor even more dependent on central banks while also turning them into guinea pigs for the development of a “cashless society” in the U.S. and Europe.

Gates outlined his plan for a cashless society in a letter published Thursday in which he proposed the poor have better access to mobile phones so they can store their financial assets digitally instead of keeping hard currency at home.

“The key to this will be mobile phones,” he wrote. “Already, in the developing countries with the right regulatory framework, people are storing money digitally on their phones and using their phones to make purchases, as if they were debit cards.”

“By 2030, two billion people who don’t have a bank account today will be storing money and making payment with their phones.”Billionaire Bill Gates wants to quench the world’s thirst. But instead of inventing a new method of utilizing rain water, the computer programmer wants people to drink recycled poop.

Future of Education -- Ending the Classroom Factory Model: How Technology Will Personalize Education

 "With the opportunity of online learning coming on,…what we talk about is shifting from this factory model system to a student-centered one that personalizes for each and every child," says Michael Horn, co-founder of the Clayton Christensen Institute and co-author of the new book Blended: Using Disruptive Innovation to Improve Schools. Horn recently sat down with Reason magazine Managing Editor Katherine Mangu-Ward during the National Summit on Education Reform in Washington, D.C., for a discussion of how blended learning joins traditional classroom models with software-based and online learning.

Horn believes that customizing education to each student's individual needs is key for both motivation and learning. "One of the big reasons that school is so boring, quite frankly, is that we all have different learning needs at different times—different things turn us on," he states. A student struggling with fundamental skills should not be reading Shakespeare, Horn explains, but instead should be put in a blended environment that uses software to improve basic literacy before moving the student into a small group discussion with a teacher.

Blended learning environments can also avoid constraining students with diverse talents or interests. As Horn declares, "The reality with online learning is you can learn from anyone, anywhere, and you can get great, talented courses and teachers to come into your classroom, in effect, even if they live across the world." He notes that it is important to give students greater educational choice as they progress to higher grade levels so that they take charge of their own learning moving forward.

In the interview, Horn describes how blended learning can create a game-based classroom environment that encourages students to help each other achieve educational goals. He also discusses how, as education moves beyond traditional institutions, credentialing will have to evolve, assessments will have to become more organic, and regulations will have to become outcome-based.

Abdullah was one of the world's most powerful men and a key U.S. ally in the region, controlling a fifth of the known global petroleum reserves. In a statement, President Obama praised Abdullah "as a force for stability and security in the Middle East and beyond." Many analysts accused Abdullah of turning the uprising in Syria into a proxy war with Iran. In 2010, WikiLeaks published U.S. diplomatic cables which identified Saudi Arabia as the world's largest source of funds for Islamist militant groups. Abdullah also sent tanks to help squash pro-democracy uprisings in neighboring Bahrain. Saudi Arabia recently came under criticism for its treatment of imprisoned blogger Raif Badawi, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes to be carried out at a rate of 50 per week for charges including insulting Islam. Abdullah's half-brother, Crown Prince Salman, has now assumed the throne. In a recent article, Rickards suggests the Federal Reserve is covering up a massive debt crisis. In fact, he says the same computer model he developed for the CIA to predict attacks around the world, that system “Project Prophecy” tells him that the Federal Reserve is doing what they can to keep the public “in the dark” about a 100 TRILLION dollar meltdown. A massive financial collapse. On his website, Rickards calls it an “unavoidable catastrophe.”

During a recent radio interview, Rickards pointed to a recurring trend he found in the international Monetary System.

Even though the Dollar is trading against the Euro at the highest point than at any time in the last ten years, Rickards still says there is room for concern. Especially because comparing currency to the Euro doesn’t mean the same thing as it once did. Other signs of cheap oil and a global economic slowdown point toward a coming crisis that could challenge the average American’s financial resolve.

Historically, the Swiss franc has been one of the most stable currencies in the global markets. But just earlier this month, the Swiss central bank split apart from their currency ceiling with the Euro, sending it for a sharp nosedive. The Swiss central bankers and financial analysts clearly sense some kind of change in the wind, but right up until the announcement, they kept their cards very close to the vest. Several top European officials said they were very insulted that they didn’t even get so much as a heads up that such a dramatic change was coming.

Now the Euro is plummeting, the Dollar isn’t very far behind, and the global markets are full of world leaders, nervously feeling each other out, and looking for solid ground in a global economy based unstable Fiat currencies. One thing is for certain - they're harvesting precious metals found INSIDE solid ground. Keep your eyes on China, India, Brazil and Russia they’re all purchasing record amounts of gold.

Webster Tarpley Historian and President of Washington Grove Institute, a think tank in Washington D.C, Webster Tarpley, discussed the conspiratorial mindset, and shared his intriguing analysis of current geopolitical and historical situations. More and more people are turning toward conspiracies because the "official story" behind such events as 9-11 and the JFK assassination are unbelievable or fantastic, he said. Tarpley doesn't consider himself a conspiracy theorist, but a seeker of truth, though he admitted that the uncovering of facts in many instances often does point to conspiracies. We live in an oligarchy run by financiers, and they often do conspire together for shared goals, he noted, adding that they compose a shadow government that secretly rules the US, intersecting with people at the State Dept., the CIA, and perhaps the Treasury and the Federal Reserve.

Tarpley spoke about his forthcoming book about Pearl Harbor and the assassination of FDR. We're told a lot of fakery about Roosevelt like he provoked Japan, and that he kept his Naval Admirals in the dark, but the opposite was true, he said. Further, a group of Wall St. Republicans that FDR put in control of the Pentagon wanted a defeat to weaken FDR in the postwar world, and Churchill knew the time and place of the Pearl Harbor attack but kept quiet in order to draw the US into the war, he continued. Roosevelt was poisoned by a female Russian painter in April 1945, Tarpley claimed, and Stalin reportedly told FDR's son "your father was poisoned/murdered by the Churchill gang."

Tarpley also commented on current situations in France, China, and Russia, as well as Syria and Libya, two countries that he visited during recent turmoils. America can get out of its economic woes by seizing control of the Federal Reserve, and stop using it to give 0% loans to bankers and financial interests, and instead give these loans with a hundred year maturity to the states, who could then start massive infrastructure rebuilding projects, he argued.

Scientists may have found Planet X -- the long-rumored object believed to be larger than Earth and further from the sun than Pluto. Planet X and another object dubbed "Planet Y," are among 13 "extreme trans-Neptunian objects" (ETNOs) orbiting the sun at great distances, according to a report in Space, which quoted a new research paper. They are believed to follow elliptical paths averaging about 200 astronomical units (AU) from the sun. Earth is 1 AU, or 93 million miles, from the sun.
