Fifty people have been killed and 53 injured in a shooting at an Orlando nightclub, confirmed the city mayor Buddy Dyer during a press briefing on Sunday. The shooting is the deadliest attack in the US since 9/11.

Police authorities say that an officer exchanged fire in LGBT nightclub Pulse Orlando at around 2am local time, before a hostage situation developed.

Omar Siddiqui Mateen, a U.S. citizen of Afghan descent living in Port St. Lucie, has been identified as the attacker.
