The problem is how the contamination assessments are made. The industries polluting our planet have gained control over the agencies monitoring them and now no-one can or should be trusted. Unless there are meaningful chances with our regulators there will be no hope for anyone, anywhere. I do not see anything changing until we rid ourselves of the corporate media who only serve as propaganda ministries for industry and government.

Nuclear power plants let me explain so even the dumb Americans get it.The reactor is basically a pressure cooker with a nuclear core filled with water as the medium for heat exchange, The pressure vessel is 4 inch thick steel. Now at the temperatures and pressures within this vessel the tiny radio active Hydrogen atom Tritium can and does migrate through the crystalline structure of the 4 inch thick pressure vessel or primary containment this radio active hydrogen is periodically released to atmosphere to prevent hydrogen build up and consequent explosive mixtures to put it simply all nuclear power plants pollute the environment with Radio active Hydrogen get it !
