Wayne Madsen : 2,300 journalists killed in past 25 years

The International Federation of Journalists says nearly 2,300 journalists have lost their lives in the past 25 years while covering wars, revolutions, crimes, and corruption.

The IFJ made the announcement in a comprehensive report to be made public early February. The report reveals those responsible for the killings continue to act without punishment. The federation says the past ten years were the deadliest, with 2006 marking the worst year of all with 155 deaths. It also expressed regret over the United Nations’ failure to fulfill its pledge of protection. Iraq has topped the list of most dangerous countries for journalists with 309 deaths. Most of them have been killed since the 2003 US-led invasion of the country.
