Berlin warns of renewed conflict in Balkans if Germany shuts borders

Merkel made the remarks during a meeting with her fellow party members in the city of Darmstadt. Merkel also said that the flow of asylum seekers into Europe cannot be prevented by closing down borders. She further noted that Germany, as the largest state in the European Union, has a responsibility to find a solution to the problem. Germany is the final destination of many asylum seekers risking their lives to reach Europe.
