WW3 RED ALERT --- JAPAN FLEXES ITS MUSCLES - Japan Shows Off Its Naval Power

submarines gathered off Japan's coast on Sunday in a display of naval power that showcased Tokyo's latest and signaled wider engagement by the U.S. Navy in the western Pacific.

The Fleet Review in seas near Tokyo was the first major display of Japanese hardware since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won lawmaker approval for legislation that for the first time since will allow Japanese soldiers to defend their foreign allies.

Abe is pursuing a doctrine of collective self defense with allies meant to give his nation a bigger role in regional security in order to counterbalance the power of an increasingly assertive China.

Neighboring China, which has strained ties with several Southeast Asian countries over territorial claims in the disputed South China Sea, has said it is wary of Japan's changing defence posture.
Abe in an address after the maritime show told sailors to gird themselves for future missions and "to continue to guard the nation's peace." The provision, however, was reinterpreted last year as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pushed for allowing Japan “collective self-defense” – a use of force on behalf and in defense of its allies. The allies including India, South Korea, Australia, France, and the United States, brought along their naval assets to the Japanese display.

"Admiral Tyson's presence here is just a recognition that we are trying to be as flexible as possible to keep as many options on the table as possible so that we can be as responsive as possible," US Chief of the Naval Operations, John Richardson, said in a media briefing in Tokyo on Thursday. At a fleet review, the Maritime Self-Defense Force—Japan’s navy—mobilized nearly 40 vessels including the Izumo, Japan’s largest ship which went into service in March. Overhead, anti-submarine patrol planes dropped depth and an acrobatic flight team sketched circles in the sky.
