US military officials in Iraq have issued a preliminary confirmation that Islamic State militants used chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria. The US has identified at least four occasions on both sides of the Iraq-Syria border where ISIL has used mustard agents. Mustard agent is not a complex chemical to produce, but it can be very damaging. It can cause blisters when it comes in contact with human skin, while contact with the eyes can mean a loss of vision.
