WORLD on the EDGE of WW3 but OBAMA Decides to Go SIGHTSEEING at STONEHENGE
President Obama did a little historical sightseeing Friday before returning to the United States after the NATO summit in Wales. He took a guided tour of Stonehenge, the prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England. "How cool is this?" Obama told reporters. "Knocked it off the bucket list." While walking through Stonehenge, Obama also said: "It's spectacular, it's spectacular. It's a special place."
Day one of the NATO summit has seen the alliance’s members promise that more sanctions are on the way for Russia unless it changes course in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko had separate talks with the G5 leaders; Britain, the US, Germany, France and Italy, and talks continue to search for a deal beyond the ceasefire that should start on Friday.
“Russian troops are illegally in Ukraine. The extremist Islamist threat has risen in a new form in Iraq and Syria. These are just two of the threats that we face. NATO is the anchor of our security and over the next two days we must reinvigorate and refocus this alliance to tackle new threats and to ensure it continues to foster stability around the world,” said British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Friday ceasefire is conditional on attendance at tripartite talks in Minsk on the same day between Ukraine, Russia, and the OSCE.
Of the big European players, Germany has the most to lose but Angela Merkel is prepared to vote with her colleagues while still keeping lines of communication open with Vladimir Putin.
The authors of this NYT piece, Ukraine Reports Russian Invasion on a New Front, are not really convincing when presenting these reports by the Ukrainian government as truthful: The latest incursion, which Ukraine’s military said included five armored personnel carriers, was at least the third movement of troops and weapons from Russia across the southeast part of the border this week, further blunting the momentum Ukrainian forces have made in weakening the insurgents in their redoubts of Donetsk and Luhansk farther north. Evidence of a possible turn was seen in the panicky retreat of Ukrainian soldiers on Tuesday from a force they said had come over the Russian border. stonehenge england uk british "united states" cool trendy trending travel sightseeing historic history life humanity future war world "world war 3" sights vacation summit nato special adventure russia ukraine wwiii "bucket list" security forces "secret agent" spectacular countryside nature news media entertainment agency government 2014 2015 visit wales Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military in Kiev, said the Russian armored column entered the town of Amvrosiyivka, south of Donetsk, expanding what Western and Ukrainian officials have described as one of the main fronts in a multipronged counteroffensive directed by Russia. In seeming preparation for Islamic militants who are reportedly operating near the U.S. border in Juarez, Mexico, the Border Patrol announced it is buying body armor capable of stopping AK-47 rounds commonly used by terrorists.
The notice posted today by Customs and Border Protection states the agency is seeking a contractor who can provide 280 sets of Level III ballistic plates, which can stop 7.62x39mm rounds from AK-47s and various other rifle rounds.
These plates aren’t cheap and the timing of this large purchase comes right after a bulletin was released to federal law enforcement warning of an “imminent terrorist attack” on the wide-open U.S. border.
“Specifically, the government sources reveal that the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is confirmed to now be operating in Juarez, a famously crime-infested narcotics hotbed situated across from El Paso, Texas,” wrote Judicial Watch. “Violent crimes are so rampant in Juarez that the U.S. State Department has issued a number of travel warnings for anyone planning to go there.” As the civil war rages on in Kiev, with US-backed troops from Kiev fighting to suppress an independence movement in the east, the presence of US troops on Ukrainian soil sends a perhaps dangerously clear message of US willingness to become further involved in Ukraine’s internal affairs. Russia has been accused of military involvement on behalf of those seeking independence from Kiev, but Moscow denies any official Russian role.
