Washington is engaged in a dangerous act of regime change that could spark a new cold war.

EU Commission boss Jose Manuel Barroso said today his fellow globalist apparatchiks believe now is the time to impose sanctions on the government of Ukraine.

"We... expect that targeted measures against those responsible for violence and use of excessive force can be agreed by our member states as a matter of urgency, as proposed by the high representative/vice president (top EU diplomat Catherine Ashton)," Barroso said in a statement.

According to vice president Joe Biden Yanukovych's government bears "special responsibility to de-escalate the situation" and called on Ukraine's government to address the "legitimate grievances" of gun-and-brick wielding protesters.

Germany has yet to mention sanctions, but said "Yanukovych clearly bears responsibility for the escalation of violence." German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier characterized the violence as "appalling."

France's socialist president, Francois Hollande, expressed "deep indignation" at the violence. "Everything must be done to stop the violence. Some individual sanctions must be considered by the EU," he added.

"We must be clear: Ultimate responsibility for deaths and violence is with President Yanukovych. He has blood on his hands," said Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.

Video posted on Russian websites show the sort of violence the above leaders and bureaucrats did not touch upon. It shows "activists" and "protesters" shooting rifles and handguns at police. The video also shows "friends of the United States, in effect, friends of liberty," as former UN ambassador John Bolton called the demonstrators yesterday, heaving paving stones at cops, knocking them to the ground and kicking them.

Russia, of course, is not merely a bystander in this conflict. However, the sanctimonious grandstanding on the part of the United States and the European Union while ignoring the deadly violence of the "peaceful protestors," as Obama characterized the gun-toting attackers, demonstrates supreme arrogance and hypocrisy. Similar to his approach with Syria, President Obama announced today that the Ukrainian government would face "consequences" if it crosses "the line" in its response to the mayhem in Kiev.

In his statement given during a summit in Mexico, Obama also claimed that "a large majority of Ukrainians are interested in an integration with Europe."

When mentioning an "integration with Europe," Obama is referring to the European Union, which is currently imploding economically.

He also used similar rhetoric back in 2012 when discussing the ongoing conflict in Syria.

"We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized," the president said to NBC News.
