You can't really take out the US power lines because they are like a computer, built to handle power outages. This is US propaganda , it is impossible to shut down the entire grid there are so many redundanciies in the system and the way how the power grid is designed every power station is connected to the national grid if you shut down a couple plants all that will happen is the computers will re route power and take from other plants hat are on line. an attack of tha scale would be incredible no one has the technical abiity, money or know how to carry out such an attack.
I have never in all my electrical engineering life heard such tosh. With Nuclear plants many running at up to 120% rated capacity, Coal fired stations closing down without being replaced and renewable generators hardly supplying 2 %, and knowing the grid lay out taking out a few vital hubs during peak power requirement will cause the switchgear to transfer loads to what remains online if what remains is insufficient then what is known as a cascade trip will occur across the whole grid! no if's buts or maybes! As has happened in New york and adjacent states at least twice!
