The Plantation called New York City

On January 1, 2014, a Sanitation Department chaplain, Reverend Fred Lucas of the Brooklyn Community Church, startled listeners when he compared New York to a "plantation" during his invocation at Mayor de Blasio's inauguration, "Let the plantation called New York City be the city of God, a city set upon the hill, a light shining in darkness."
