The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces
Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these 'Mine Resistant Protected'
vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.
Vehicle
details: V-shaped hull to deflect IED blasts away from the vehicle
Vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor Protection against
direct fire and RPG rounds
The MaxxPro MRAP is built to withstand
ballistic arms fire, mine blasts, IEDs, and other emerging threats. Its
V-shaped hull helps deflect blasts out and away from the crew and its
armoring can be customized to meet any mission requirement
As
these MRAP's return from overseas/Afghanistan, and although it is
apparently unknown exactly how many are being delivered, or have been
delivered to DHS, I decided to dig slightly deeper and discover more
about the vehicle itself...
The new DHS sanctioned 'Street
Sweeper' (my own slang due to the gun ports) is built by Navistar
Defense (NavistarDefense.com), a division within the Navistar
organization. Under the Navistar umbrella are several other companies
including International Trucks, IC Bus (they make school buses), Monaco
RV (recreational vehicles), WorkHorse (they make chassis), MaxxForce
(diesel engines), and Navistar Financial (the money arm of the company).
According
to one estimate, since last year the Department of Homeland Security
has stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets, mainly .40 caliber and
9mm.
DHS also purchased 2,700 Mine Resistant Armor Protected
Vehicles (MRAP). The new DHS sanctioned 'Street Sweeper' (my own

And civil liberties activists are sounding new alarms about a militarized police force in a civilian population.
From
Florida and Albany, N.Y., to the heartland ofOhio State University and
the California coast, local police forces are acquiring weaponry for
American streets that was meant for Afghanistan minefields.
Fort Pierce, Fla., a town of just
over 40,000 on Florida's Atlantic coast, ranks 56 for gun violence in
the United States. But its often beleaguered police force is getting
some high-powered help from the United States military in the form of a
new armored vehicle known as an MRAP, for Mine Response Ambush
Protection.
The Super Bowl's annual role as a poster child for
the police state will continue uninterrupted this year with low flying
helicopters, airport-style security and checkpoints throughout New York
and New Jersey.
"The U.S. National Nuclear Security
Administration will use a twin-engine Bell 412 helicopter equipped with
radiation sensing technology, flying in a grid covering about 10 square
miles at altitudes of 150 feet or higher at about 80 miles per hour,
according to the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management," reports the
Jersey Journal.
As we reported last week, the Department of
Homeland Security announced that it would be flying a similar helicopter
at low altitudes over Baltimore for years to come in order to prepare
for a potential nuclear attack.
Other Super Bowl security
measures include increased random bag searches and other checkpoints
that will be commonplace throughout New York and New Jersey transit hubs
Unwarranted
NSA surveillance, the passage of NDAA, stop and frisk programs, and the
rise of warrior cops, have essentially turned America into a
centralized police state.
Blurring the lines between the U.S.
military and local sheriff departments sets a dangerous precedent that
erodes freedom and civil liberties.
Wow. Police are now working for the bankers.
ReplyDeleteThe enemy is just placing its equipment around the US for future use....may be foreign troops that use it...certainly not for the local ego mania...
