Gun Debate: Will background checks lead to government tyranny?

A year after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. RT America hosts a rational, fact-based debate on guns and their role in American society. Moderator Abby Martin hosts a panel discussion with investigative journalist Ben Swann; Leah Gunn Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence; Richard Feldman, president of Independent Firearms Owners Association; and 2012 Green Party presidential Candidate Jill Stein. In this third part of the debate, Martin and the guests discuss whether gun control is a slippery slope to eliminate the Second Amendment, how 74 percent of National Rifle Association members support background checks for all gun sales and if more support for mental-health services would solve the problem of gun violence. They also talk about whether growing wealth inequality in the US is a factor in gun violence and whether guns prevent government tyranny.
