Beck challenged members of President Barack Obama's administration to reveal to the public what they know about the Saudi and stave off an brewing inter-agency feud over which department is incorrect about the Saudi's relevance to the investigation into the Boston attack. But today, speaking at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on immigration reform, Napolitano responded to a question posed by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).
"Before the [Tsarnaev] brothers became the focus of the investigation, authorities questioned a Saudi student who reportedly was on a terror watchlist," Grassley said. "I sent a letter to you this morning asking for answers to questions about the bombers and how they interacted with your agency, I trust you will promptly respond..."
"With regard to the Saudi student, was he on a watchlist, and if so, how did he obtain a student visa?" Grassley asked.
Napolitano firmly responded: "He was not on a watchlist. What happened is — this student was, really when you back it out, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was never a subject. He was never even really a person of interest. Because he was being interviewed, he was at that point put on a watchlist, and then when it was quickly determined he had nothing to do with the bombing, the watch listing status was removed."

A new bird flu strain that has sickened more than 100 and killed 22 in China is "one of the most lethal" of its kind, and has now spread to another country, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
A 53-year-old Taiwan businessman contracted the H7N9 strain of bird flu while travelling in China, Taiwan's Health Department said Wednesday. This is the first reported case outside China's mainland.
The man was hospitalized after becoming ill three days after returning from Suzhou on April 9, Health Department Minister Wen-Ta Chiu told a news conference. Chiu said the patient was diagnosed with the H7N9 virus and was in serious condition.
Chiu said Taiwan will take appropriate measures, including opening a special out-patient clinic for H7N9 cases.
The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention is keeping a close eye on this virus, which may be resistant to some antibiotic drugs.

An analyst says that groups in the US has pushed Canada to announce a false Iran & al-Qaeda link when in fact it is the CIA that controls al-Qaeda terrorism. 4/23/13 - The Mississippi man released on Tuesday after being detained and accused of sending ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), according to his attorney, Christi McCoy, was framed. In an interview with CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, McCoy said that her client, Kevin Curtis, was the victim of an elaborate plot which set him up as the person responsible for sending a deadly poison to some of America's most prominent elected officials.

"The case has not been dismissed," McCoy told Cuomo when asked why Curtis' preliminary hearing was cancelled and he was released from detention on Tuesday.

"You're saying he's the wrong guy?" Cuomo asked. McCoy said that Curtis is innocent of the charges against him.
"I do believe that the government did what they believe was in everyone -- everyone's best interest because of where the evidence pointed at that time," McCoy replied.
She said that Curtis is an "activist" and is passionate about the organ and tissue donation industry. McCoy said that the signature which Curtis used on social media outlets, "I am KC and I approve this message," became of interest to authorities when that signature was discovered on the ricin-laced letters sent to elected officials.
"You think somebody was trying to frame him?" Cuomo asked.
"I absolutely do," McCoy replied.
Boston Bombers Wife Releases Statement
Katherine Russell, the 24-year-old widow of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaeva, released a short statement through her lawyer, Amato DeLuca, on Tuesday morning. It was the first time she has spoken out since the terror attack unfolded last Monday (although her mother did previously release a brief written comment following Tsarnaeva's death).
Our firm is representing Katherine Russell and she has asked us to make a short statement. As you know from news reports, Katie married her husband in June of 2010. Since then, she has been living in Cambridge, raising her child and working long hours, caring for people in their homes who are unable to care for themselves. Katie grew up in Rhode Island and has always remained close to her parents and sisters here, as well as her extended family. She is fortunate to have the support of her loving family now, as they struggle to come to terms with these events and the deep sorrow we all feel following the events of last week. The RCMP said Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser of Montreal and Toronto were arrested for planning the attack. The men are not Canadian citizens.
They were supported by al-Qaida "elements" in Iran, police told reporters at a Monday afternoon press conference.
Charges include conspiring to carry out a terror attack and conspiring to murder for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a terrorist group.
Police said there was no danger to the public, as the plot was discovered and stopped early.
"It was definitely in the planning stage, but not imminent," RCMP Chief Supt. Jennifer Strachan said.

The passenger train crosses the bridge that connects Canada and the United States at Niagara Falls, Ont.
U.S. officials said the alleged plot was not linked with last week's Boston Marathon bombings.
The arrests follow not only the Boston bombings but revelations that Canadians took part in an attack bymilitants on a gas plant in Algeria in January.
It also recalls the arrests in 2006 of the so-called Toronto-18, accused of planning to plant bombs at various Canadian targets.
However, RCMP Ass. Comm. James Milizia said the discovery of support from al-Qaida makes this plot even more significant.

RCMP Confirm Al-Qaeda Supported Terrorist Attack Plot on New York - Toronto Passenger Train .The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested and charged two men with plotting an "al Qaeda-supported" terror attack to derail a passenger train inside Canada.
SkyNews. Canadian police say they have foiled an al Qaeda-backed "terrorist plot" to attack a passenger train on a railway line between New York and Toronto.
Two people have been arrested and charged for conspiring to carry out the attack and murder people in association with a terrorist group, police revealed at a news conference in Toronto.
The suspects - Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, and Raed Jaser, 35 - had been under surveillance since August 2012.
They were allegedly planning to target a Via Rail passenger train in the Toronto area, and are alleged to have received "direction and guidance" from al Qaeda elements in Iran.
Police said there was "no indication that these attacks were state-sponsored" and declined to say where the arrested men were from, but confirmed they were not Canadian citizens.
Canadian authorities, the FBI and US Homeland Security police and agents have been involved in a year-long cross-border operation that led to the arrests in Toronto and Montreal.
Assistant Commissioner James Maliza, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said: "Had this plot been carried out it would have resulted in innocent people being killed, or seriously injured."
Colleague Chief Superintendent Jennifer Strachan added: "We are alleging that these two individuals took steps and conducted activities to initiate a terrorist attack.
"They watched trains and railways in the Greater Toronto area."
She added: "It was definitely in the planning stage but not imminent."
Sky's US correspondent Amanda Walker said: "They are really hailing this as a successful operation - something particularly in the current climate - that they have managed to prevent.
"It does seem they have treated this as a very serious and major threat which was certainly well-on in the planning, it seems.
"But not far enough for the public or railway staff to be in any immediate danger.
"So obviously they had a difficult act here to actually balance the timing of when they made these arrests - getting enough intelligence, enough information, but not taking that up to the point when the public would have been in real danger."
The news comes one week after twin bombings at the Boston Marathon killed three people and wounded 180 - and as Canada's parliament debates a proposal to beef up anti-terror measures.
A US Justice Department official in Washington said there was no connection between the thwarted terrorist plot and last Monday's attacks in Boston.

The suspects, one in Montreal and one in Toronto, were arrested Monday morning and "will face criminal charges," reported CTV's Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife.
The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation conducted by the RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, which "had been going on for a considerable amount of time," Fife said.

The RCMP have arrested two people who they say were plotting a terrorist attack in Canada, CTV News has learned.
"I am told that the two people who have been arrested, they are linked somehow to al Qaeda," Fife reported Monday afternoon.
Fife said it remains unclear how the two are connected to the international terror organization.
The two people arrested Monday are not linked with two men from London, Ont., who died in an alQaeda-linked siege on a gas plant in Algeria last January. They are also not linked to the suspects in last week's deadly Boston Marathon bombing.
The public was "never at risk," security sources told Fife, because RCMP and CSIS were closely monitoring the suspects.
The suspects are described as being older, so "it does not appear to be a case of radicalization of youth," Fife said.
Fife said police had planned to make the arrests three weeks ago, but for unknown reasons they picked up the suspects on Monday.
The RCMP are expected to provide more information at a Toronto news conference scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
The arrests come as MPs debate an anti-terrorism bill that has been in the works for months but has taken on greater significance in the wake of the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon last week.
Bill S-7, the Combating Terrorism Act, includes provisions that make it an offence to leave the country to participate in acts of terror. It also grants police the powers to pre-emptively arrest someone and hold them for three days without charge, and allows for imprisonment for up to 12 months for refusing to testify before a judge in an investigative hearing.

Boston Bombing Suspect Awake and Responding 'Sporadically' to Questions
4/21/13 - ABC News is reporting that Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awake and responding to questions while under guard at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. The 19-year-old has been unable to speak since he was captured Friday night. He has been in serious but stable condition, according to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, but was not expected to wake up so soon.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino even said today: "...we don't know if we'll ever be able to question the individual."
Dzhokar and his older brother Tamerlan — who was killed in a shootout with police Thursday night — are accused of setting off two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring at least 180 others. Despite a serious throat wound that prevents him from speaking, the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect is beginning to respond to questions from investigators, federal officials tell NBC News.
Nearly 48 hours after he was taken into custody following an intense gun battle and manhunt, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was communicating with a special team of federal investigators... He was responding to questions mostly in writing because of the throat wound, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The suspect remains in serious condition. Law enforcement sources had said earlier they were putting the final touches on charges against Tsarnaev and would announce them Sunday. However, Justice Department officials said late in the day that charges would not be announced until Monday at the earliest. They did not give a reason for the delay.
Authorities have told NBC News that a special high value detainee interrogation team will question Tsarnaev without advising him of his Miranda rights. A "public safety exemption" allows investigators to question a suspect without being informed of his right to remain silent and to have an attorney present during questioning when it is thought that he or she might have vital information about a threat to public safety.

A Saudi Arabian newspaper is reporting that United States First Lady Michelle Obama visited in the hospital Saudi citizen Abdul Rahman Ali Issa Al-Salimi Alharbi, the young man who had been labeled a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombing.
The newspaper accompanied its report with an image of Obama, although the background was generic and it couldn’t be confirmed immediately that she was at the hospital where Alharbi was being treated at the time. He reportedly suffered injuries in the Boston bombing.
The newspaper’s Arabic-language report is being highlighted by Walid Shoebat, a former Muslim Brotherhood member who now is a peace activist. “Okaz, the same prominent Saudi newspaper that published photos of Abdul Rahman Ali Issa Al-Salimi Alharbi in the hospital after the Boston Marathon bombings, is now reporting that the Saudi national was also visited by the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, durin g his hospital stay,” Shoebat reported.
