The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa began in Guinea in December 2013. From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and a separate outbreak appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia lies is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection. About half of them have been fatal. As President Barack Obama announced that he would be sending American military personnel to West Africa to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to the Liberian capital of Monrovia to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak. In Part 1, we meet confused and distressed people trying to receive treatment in the increasingly chaotic city, and speak to an ambulance driver doing his best to aid the sick.

There just isn’t enough to absorb a major flight from a currency as large as the dollar. The dollar is just a huge currency.” About the 4% GDP growth in 2nd quarter, Dr. Roberts says, “There is a lot of pressure on them because that can be a black swan event. You get a second negative quarter and you are talking about recession, and then you got people asking why are stocks so high? Then, people start bailing out of stocks, and since it’s rigged, you don’t know how big the crash will be.”

Investigative journalist David Lindorff says cutting the food stamp budget while approving funds for the fight against ISIL is symptomatic of “completely reversed priorities” in the United States. Lindorff made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday when asked about a report that 850,000 Americans would be subject to an average of $90 loss per month in food stamp benefits. “It’s absolutely appalling that the US is struggling with one of the highest poverty rates and unemployment rates in the developed world,” he said. He went on to say that Congress is heedless of the fact that “close to fifty million Americans live in poverty,” adding that lawmakers are “cutting the food stamp budget by nearly a million people and over $8 billion.” Notwithstanding the bitter reality, Lindorff said, the US is “spending almost three times that much to drop bombs and fire drones [and] missiles at this shady organization, ISIS, that it helped to create in Syria.” The war against the ISIL (or ISIS) terrorist group in Iraq and Syria may cost up to $22 billion per year, a Washington-based think tank reported on Monday. “It’s just another sick example of the completely reversed priorities in the US to what we really need, spending on war and ignoring the increasing poverty in the US,” Lindorff stated.
