Obviously, in the bigger picture, the majority of people are still stuck in believing the current system will correct itself. While there was clearly wrongdoing by banks during the recession of 2008, few words were spoken that consumers took the loans of their own volition. Well, that's not entirely true. Many loans were packaged as such to convince borrowers they were within guidelines of affordability. Now with nearly all that behind us, and the new laws in place, mortgages are very much more difficult to obtain. Why? On top of the higher qualifying standards, the Fed is incentivizing bankers to keep excessive reserves above a set threshold. The Federal Reserve has been paying banks 25 basis points or ¼ of one percent on these excess reserves. The government paid out over $4 billion to banks in 2012 under this program. If rates go up these payments could raise to a level many times this amount. Is this a subsidy for banks and a disincentive to lend? Are banks right in back in the business of high stakes leveraging and casino risk taking?

More than 60 percent of all global foreign exchange reserves are held in U.S. dollars, and far more U.S. dollars are actually used outside of the United States than inside of it.  The Obama administration was serious enough about manufacturing a high-value platinum coin to avert a congressional fight over the debt ceiling that it had its top lawyers draw up a memo laying out the legal case for such a move, The Huffington Post learned last week.

HuffPost submitted the FOIA request when there was increased speculation about the use of the platinum coin option ahead of the debt ceiling crisis this fall. Under the compromise reached between the House and Senate following the government shutdown, the U.S. will hit the debt ceiling once again on Feb. 7, though the Treasury can use extraordinary measures to extend that deadline.

Supporters of the platinum coin option say that under a 1996 law allowing the Treasury Department to mint a platinum coin in any denomination, the president could order the manufacture of, say, a $1 trillion coin that would be deposited in the Federal Reserve. The Treasury Department would then use the platinum coin funds to meet government obligations without the need for Congress to grant any additional spending powers.

By 2013 governments around the world, including the European Parliament, considered Wahhabism the primary source of Islamic terrorism.
California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein is calling for the U.S. military to attack ISIS in Iraq. She has also said the besieged country's current leader, Nouri al-Maliki, needs to step down.

"I think most important is that we take direct action now against ISIS, marching down to Baghdad, and prevent them from getting into Baghdad," said Feinstein, who is the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Feinstein believes a "reconciliation" government needs to replace al-Maliki, who was approved by the Iraqi government for a second term as president in December, 2010.

"I think it's most important that the Maliki government be replaced, and that includes Mr. Maliki with a reconciliation government," she said. "Based on all I've heard, read and know, Mr. Maliki is not able to bring about reconciliation in that country."

Crude-oil prices edged higher on Wednesday, with the U.S. benchmark pushing back toward $107 a barrel after militants in Iraq attacked the country's biggest oil refinery, underlining worries about potential threats to export facilities in the south.

Former Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Sha Zukang has warned that the dispute between Japan and China over the Senkaku Islands could lead to World War III. Sha Zukang (YouTube).

Citing a Chinese-language piece written by Zukang for the the pro-regime Global Times, a report in the China Times says that Zukang warned of the futility of going to war over "those two tiny rocks," a reference to the disputed islands which have become the center of a geopolitical tug of war between China and Japan, with the United States and South Korea also becoming embroiled.

The House and Senate Armed Services Committees have reached an agreement on the fiscal year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Twenty-two land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles will next year be added to Russia's nuclear arsenal, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.

Oh people, the religion of Allah will not be established, and the purpose for which Allah created us will not be achieved, unless the law of Allah is instated and observed, and unless the Islamic punishments are implemented. This can be accomplished only through power and might.

This is the foundation of Islam: A book of guidance and a sword that defends it. Allah has bestowed victories and conquests upon your brothers, the mujahideen. After long years of Jihad and perseverance, fighting the enemies of Allah, Allah has enabled them to accomplish their goal.

Thus, they hastened to declare the establishment of their Caliphate and the appointment of an imam. This is a duty incumbent upon the Muslims – a duty that was neglected for centuries and was not implemented. Many Muslims were ignorant of this duty. Muslims who ignore this duty are committing a sin. They must always strive to carry out this duty.

Lo and behold, they have now carried out this duty, blessings and gratitude be to Allah.

I was put to the test by this heavy responsibility with which I was entrusted. I have been appointed your wali, yet I am not the best among you, nor am I better than you. If you see that I am right, assist me, and if you see that I err, advise me and set me back on the right track. Obey me as long as I obey Allah, but if I disobey Allah, you are not obliged to obey me.

I shall not promise you what kings and rulers promise their subjects – a life of luxury, tranquility, security, and comfort. I shall promise you what Allah promised His believing servants: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will make them rulers on the land, as He made those before them rulers. He will instate for them their religion, which He has chosen for them. He will replace their fear with security. They shall worship Me, not associating anything with Me. Whoever disbelieves henceforth – these are the sinners" [Quran 24:55].

If you want what Allah has promised, wage Jihad for His sake, incite the believers, and persevere through these hardships. If only you knew what reward, honor, elevation, and glory there is in Jihad – in this world and in the Hereafter – none of you would be remiss in setting out to wage Jihad.

Poll: Majority of Americans blame Bush for Iraq violence

A majority of Americans blame the recent surge of violence in Iraq on former US President George W. Bush.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll, more than 51 percent of the registered voters blamed the Bush-era foreign policies for the current turmoil in Iraq. Sixty-one percent of those polled said the 2003 war in Iraq was the wrong thing to do. A majority of voters also disapprove of the way President Barack Obama is handling the bloodshed perpetrated by ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Iraq. Fifty-eight percent of the voters said Obama's decision to withdraw American forces from Iraq in 2011 was the right decision. During a press conference in the Netherlands today, Obama said he is more worried about Manhattan getting nuked than any supposed threat posed by Russia.

The president made the remark after a reporter asked him if former challenger Mitt Romney was correct in his assertion that Russia is once again the primary foe of the United States following Crimeans voting to rejoin Russia.

"Russia's actions are a problem. They don't pose the No. 1 national security threat to the United States. I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan," Obama said.

Obama did not elaborate on the threat.

The previous December South Korea, for obvious reasons, said North Korea had developed the technology capable of delivering a nuclear weapon to the West Coast of the United States. Experts, however, said at the time the hereditary communist state is years away from miniaturizing a nuclear weapon and mounting it on a ballistic missile.

California is approximately 3,000 miles from Manhattan. In order to nuke New York, the North Koreans would require a missile capable of traveling around 9,000 miles.
