"A number of countries, including China and Russia, have suggested replacing the dollar as the world's reserve currency. In a radical report, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has said the system of currencies and capital rules which binds the world economy is not working properly, and was largely responsible for the financial and economic crises. "

"Although a number of countries, including China and Russia, have suggested replacing the dollar as the world's reserve currency, the UNCTAD report is the first time a major multinational institution has posited such a suggestion.


The proposals would also imply that surplus nations such as China and Germany should stimulate their economies further in order to cut their own imbalances, rather than, as in the present system, deficit nations such as the UK and US having to take the main burden of readjustment."

"Replacing the dollar with an artificial currency would solve some of the problems related to the potential of countries running large deficits and would help stability," said Detlef Kotte, one of the report's authors. "But you will also need a system of managed exchange rates. Countries should keep real exchange rates adjusted for inflation stable. Central banks would have to intervene and if not they would have to be told to do so by a multilateral institution such as the International Monetary Fund."

The proposals, included in UNCTAD's annual Trade and Development Report , amount to the most radical suggestions for redesigning the global monetary system.

Although many economists have pointed out that the economic crisis owed more to the malfunctioning of the post-Bretton Woods system, until now no major institution, including the G20 , has come up with an alternative. The goal is for the G20 to transform the International Monetary Fund (IMF) into a global Federal Reserve System. It is the Federal Reserve System which has controlled the U.S. money supply since 1914. The Federal Reserve System has nothing to do with the "Federal" government. It is a secretive and private corporation owned by international banking interests who control our political system, economy and money. In short, since 1914 the U.S. Government ended being a government run by "we the people" and has been under the control of international bankers. The Council on Foreign Relations is run by the same people who run the Federal Reserve. Here we have two of the most powerful groups in America and the world and there is almost a complete media black-out on them. The average American knows nothing about them except disinformation. Anyone who brings up the "elephants in the living room" is marginalized and demonized. This places the burden on lenders to ensure that students are not taking more debt than they can handle. While it would lead to a reduction in the amount of loan dollars awarded and increase interest rates, these are natural incentives that encourage borrowers to be more careful right now, and in the future, which puts pressure on colleges and universities to control their costs. According to Prof. Lin, making student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy is a good first step in reform aimed at resolving student debt and rising tuition costs

BREAKING: New York Shooting 6 Shot, 4 Dead

(CBS/AP) HERKIMER, N.Y. - Police in upstate New York are searching for a gunman after shootings at two different businesses left four people dead and at least two wounded, according to local media reports. According to LittleFallsTimes.com, police say two people were fatally shot at Gaffey's car wash in Herkimer and two more were gunned down at a business on Washington Street in Herkimer. The survivors were injured during the spree, but police did not say at which location. State police told media outlets that the second business was a barber shop. Herkimer Village police would only say there was a shooting and a manhunt. In the meantime, local schools are on lockdown. The shooting happened about 65 miles east of Syracuse.

12 March 2013 Russia threatens USA with Nuclear attack - end times news update 3-12-13 MOSCOW — Russia has reported efforts by the West to block weapons exports to Syria. Meanwhile, Sunni rebels in Syria are acquiring Russian-made weapons from Serbia.

A senior official said Western countries were using a range of
means to stop the shipment of Russian weapons to Damascus. The official
said, however, that the Kremlin has still maintained military deliveries to
the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The Russian ships are lured into ports and arrested there under various devised pretexts," Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation director Alexander Fomin said. "When the ships are at sea, any insurance is canceled."

In a radio interview on March 2, Fomin did not specify cases in which
Russia failed to complete arms shipments. He said the attempts reflected an organized effort by the international community.

"A real war has been declared against us," Fomin said.

Over the last year, both Britain, Finland and Turkey reported the
interception of Russian defense shipments to Syria, including radars and main battle tank components. Damascus has been one of the two largest Middle East clients of Russia's defense industry.

Meanwhile, Sunni rebels have acquired what they termed a powerful
anti-tank weapon in their war against the regime of Syrian President Bashar
Assad.

Rebels have displayed the RPG-27, a shoulder-fired rocket-propelled
grenade launch system. The Russian-origin RPG was designed to penetrate the
armor of Syrian Army combat armored vehicles, including the T-72 main battle
tank.

In a display in northern Syria, rebels also unveiled the RPG-6 launcher,
another Russian weapon. The rebels said the weapons were
deployed by the so-called Victory Brigade, an Islamist rebel unit that
operates in the Hama province.

Another Islamist rebel militia, Ahrar Al Sham, also displayed the RPG-27
and -6. An Ahrar spokesman said Islamist militias have been sharing these
weapons as part of intensified coordination.

The RPG-6 was said to have been manufactured in Serbia under Russian
license. Earlier, Western reports asserted that Serbia was supplying
weapons to the rebels in a deal financed by Saudi Arabia.

Rebels said additional new heavy weapons were delivered to Islamist
militias in 2013. They said the weapons, which include the Chinese FN-6
surface-to-air missile, were also financed by Qatar.

Rand Paul Seriously Considering Presidential Run -

After his 13-hour filibuster stunt on the senate floor Wednesday, Kentucky senator Rand Paul back in the national spotlight and admits to a possible presidential run.

Senator Paul told Politico.com he hasn't made any decision yet and won't until sometime in 2014.

Paul says the Republican Party needs a change if they want to appeal to voters outside of its conservative base.

Paul also discussed the negative effects running a campaign would have on his family and he said that could be a determining factor on whether he runs or not.

"You know when I ran for the senate we didn't realize how difficult it would be on the family." Paul said. "There were so many nights my wife was home crying at the abuse that we got and some of it you really take personally."

Paul made headlines when he held a 13-hour filibuster in order to block the confirmation of President Barack Obama's pick to head the CIA.

Paul's supporters say this move will help him because it shows he can stand his ground.

When he emerged from the tunnel, he felt a "strange sensation" of weightlessness and "hydroplaning forward" into a "gray electronic fog." Soon thereafter, the fog dissipated and Gernon had traveled 100 miles in a little over three minutes.

Based on his research, Pares theorized on what happened during Gernon's flight. He put forth the idea that when Gernon flew into the tunnel, it harnessed the massive amount of power contained in the thunderstorms that surrounded the plane. As a result of this tremendous energy, Pares suggested, "the fabric of space in front of his craft is compressed and, in the back, it's expanding," pushing the plane over a great distance in a small amount of time. He clarified that Gernon did not experience time travel, because, when he touched down, the clocks in the plane matched those at the runway. Some of the panelists speculated that this has more to do with the libertarian streak of the country.

"The pervasive things Americans believe is libertarianism. 'Don't Tread On Me' is our national, motto," said Washington Post columnist David Ignatius.

CNN's Gloria Borger and The Washington Post's Kathleen Parker both agreed that it had more to do with changing demographics and a greater acceptance of gays and lesbians among young people.

Matthews asked Sullivan if these changing sentiments among lay Catholics will have an impact on the selection of the next pope.

Sullivan said no and then added that many of the cardinals are actually gay, prompting chuckles from some of the panelists off screen.

"There are so many gays electing the next Pope that who knows whether that would happen," said Sullivan, talking about a topic he has written about before.

"You mean the Cardinals?" a startled Matthews interrupted.

"Yes," Sullivan answered.

Sullivan noted that the the only religious group in the United States that still opposes gay marriage in large numbers is white evangelical Christians. Sullivan contended that continued opposition to gay marriage by evangelicals will kill them off the way it has hurt the Catholic Church.

Earlier this month Sullivan speculated that Pope Benedict XVI was in a gay relationship with one of his assistants.

Is Bitcoin The New Economic Revolution ?

(CNNMoney) Bitcoin sounds like something from science fiction: A purely digital currency, created by an anonymous hacker, that operates outside the world's traditional banking systems. The four-year-old currency is very real, though, and it's trading an all-time high, tripling in value in the last two months alone. One bitcoin is was worth about $40 U.S. dollars on Tuesday, and surged on Wednesday to nearly $49. That's up from around $13 in January, and 5 cents in 2010, according to Mt. Gox, the bitcoin market's main exchange. On that and other trading sites, buyers can swap their digital coins for cold, hard cash.
