Russia's Military Might for More Than Show



Russian soldiers, tanks and rockets paraded across the cobblestones of Red Square on Thursday in the Kremlin's annual display of the nation's military might.

The parade was first held 68 years ago to celebrate the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Today it is a carefully choreographed event to remind Russians -- and the world -- that the country remains a major military power.

President Vladimir Putin reviewed the troops and addressed the nation, declaring: "We will do everything to strengthen security on the planet."

Russia's economy may now rank 10th largest in the world, but it still aspires to be a military superpower.

To showcase Russia's military might, authorities spent millions of dollars to disperse rain clouds in the skies and repair asphalt ground up by tank treads on the ground. Lavish television coverage included placing TV cameras in the cockpit of a fighter jet, by the wheels of a battle tank, and atop the Kremlin's 15th century clock tower.

Foreign military attaches watched from a VIP reviewing section as nuclear-capable rockets and S-300 mobile missile batteries rolled by.

The anti-aircraft missiles were a reminder of news reports earlier Wednesday that Russia is preparing to sell S-300 missile batteries to Syria's embattled government.

This advanced system would limit the ability of the United States and other nations to operate over Syrian airspace or impose a no-fly zone. On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry left Moscow after winning President Putin's support for a conference to mediate a political solution to Syria's civil war.

For four decades, Moscow has been an ally of and arms supplier to the Assad clan that has run Syria since 1971.

On Friday, British Prime Minister David Cameron is to meet President Putin for talks in Sochi, after which he is to fly to Washington for a Monday meeting with President Obama.

◆ Regional Power

On Red Square, the columns of tanks and rows of marching soldiers were a reminder of Russia's determination to be a regional power.

On Wednesday, President Putin met with Russia's Security Council and instructed the military to draw up plans to defend Central Asia and southern Russia in the event of a collapse in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of American troops next year.

"We will bear it in mind that the Afghan army and law enforcement bodies are so far unable to guarantee security in Afghanistan," Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev told reporters on Wednesday.

It was a reminder that Russia's massive military is maintained for greater goals than marching smartly in parades.

Military spending fell last year in the United States and across western and central Europe, but surged in Russia, China, the Middle East and North Africa, according to new figures released by a research group based in Sweden.

The changes "may be the beginning of a shift in the balance of world military spending from the rich Western countries to emerging nations," Sam Perlo-Freeman of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said in a statement announcing the report Monday.

Although the U.S. still accounted for 39% of global military spending --- far more than any other country -- belt tightening and the drawdown in Afghanistan contributed to a 6% decline in expenditures from the previous year, Perlo-Freeman said. Military pending in western and central Europe dropped 1.6%.
Meanwhile, Russia increased its spending 16%, part of a massive plan to modernize its armaments, according to the report. Chinese military spending was up an estimated 8%.

The increase in Russian spending, and an even bigger uptick in Ukraine, helped drive up military spending across Eastern Europe, which had the biggest jump of any region, 15%, the institute said. Spending also rose in the Middle East (8%), North Africa (8%), Latin America (4%) and Asia and Oceania (3%.)

The single biggest increase was reported in the Persian Gulf country of Oman, which hiked its military spending by 51%, according to the institute.

Those increases continue a trend stretching back a decade in some parts of the world. Vietnam, for instance, has more than doubled its military spending since 2003, a reaction to increased Chinese assertiveness regarding disputed territories in the South China Sea, researchers said.

O'Reilly dismissed arguments of hypocrisy and double standards, making it clear that the American people deserve to know the truth about what happened.

O'Reilly said yesterday's hearings were unequivocally "embarrassing" for Clinton and President Obama, and showed a clip of Jon Stewart accusing Fox News and the Republicans of selective outrage, with no one speaking out when similar attacks occurred under the Bush administration. O'Reilly shot back that "none of the attacks were at the level of Benghazi," and surmised that Stewart must have gotten his news from Media Matters and The Daily Kos.

O'Reilly declared that every American should be outraged at Gregory Hicks, one of the whistleblowers who testified yesterday, getting demoted after voicing his concerns to his superiors at the State Department. O'Reilly said that "honest government is the cornerstone of our democracy" and people shouldn't be punished for telling the truth. He added that Clinton may need to testify again, and that this whole scandal may come back to haunt her in 2016.

A Call to all Good People in Government

The truth is like a beautiful daybreak, after a long dark night, it always comes up without fail, and illuminates all dark spaces.

The exposure will not just be exposing the present corruption and deceit, but will open and expose virtually everything that has taken place previously.

As more and more people in government feel guilty for being a part of the global sickness of corrupt government, the more people will defect and come out to clear their names. This is taking place now as the spotlight of truth burns deep into people’s conscience. It is also taking place in the military and police as they can no longer stand shoulder to shoulder with the lies and deceit of those who give them their orders.

There is a definite purging taking place which is exposing everything which is not the truth, with the technology of the internet speeding the process up to lightning speed, and that lightening of truth is striking into the hearts of the most unlikely of people we would expect to step forwardand speak the truth. The Revolution of Consciousness

People all over the world are waking up at last from the anesthetizing effects of our system of suppression which has kept us asleep. The stage is set, the race is on, and history holds our page open, pen in hand and awaits the result.

I have been saying for many years that we are lucky that people haven’t all woken up from the chloroform at once, because the system would have collapsed to its knees overnight. This might not have been so bad but it would have brought more suffering on the already suffering population and that concerned me because we have suffered enough as it is.

I was always concerned that if all the people all saw through the lies and deceit all at once, they would stop what they were doing and literally rebel and be really angry to find out the glaring truth that they had been lied and cheated for thousands of years. Everything would then collapse and there would be chaos. I had an inner rift about this for years, I wanted everyone to wake up and transcend the choking, dullness of the system, and see through the mist of ignorance and smog that covers the revolting system of mass manipulation and control that has kept humanity in its choking head lock for so long. It has been very lonely all these years knowing the whole system was designed to keep us all as sleep walking prisoners and robots to be used by the controlling elite.

I knew people would be very angry to learn the awful truth that they had been made fools of along with their close family and distant ancestors, being made slaves and manipulated by the same unscrupulous oligarchs for a very long time. This is a bitter pill for anyone who trusted the smiling politicians for years and years, putting their trust and faith in them, and handing their souls over.

And so the transformation in people has been a gradual one, but is now being accelerated because people really have suffered long enough. In some older traditions it was said that when humanity got to a point where the suffering of people outweighed the learning via the suffering then the school bell would ring and we would all go home, and return to our awakened, transformed selves. I am convinced we are at that evolutionary crossroads right now, and that’s why people all over the world are waking up, and in one sense its horrifying because there is going to be, and already is mayhem for a while, but I am now convinced that enough is enough and people have suffered too long now, and the prison walls must come down.

So what we are all experiencing and seeing is the beginning of a mass awakening, it is a consciousness revolution not a physical one. And as we can see the people are not being fooled any more. Egypt is a good example, they overthrew the government but it was predictable that the oligarchs would just shuffle the playing cards around a bit and hoped it would put the people back to sleep again but the trick didn’t work this time again. Thank goodness the people now have seen the way the tricks are played, and they know it’s the same organization of people in control with different names.

So the stage is definitely set, the people know their captures and enemy, what they look like, and at last people everywhere are realizing that it is the population, the people, that are in fact the producers and editors of the whole show, and its ending, or new beginning. It is the engine room of the ship, the people, that ultimately steer humanity’s destination and not the psychotic government captains on the bridge. Massive US-led military drills began in the Persian Gulf in a second such show of maritime might in under a year. The US says the exercises are not aimed at Iran, who earlier vowed to close the Hormuz Strait, and now expresses concern over the drills.

The US Navy has issued a statement that the mass exercises are aimed at "enhancing capability to preserve freedom of navigation in international waterways."

The drills will reportedly focus on mine-sweeping and search-and-seizure operations, and some on-shore training.

The Pentagon is directing the maneuvers, which will reportedly involve 35 ships, 18 unmanned submarines and unmanned aircraft. The 40 other countries participating in the drills have not yet been named.

Tehran has said it will be monitoring the exercises, and voiced concerns about how the maneuvers come in the run-up to the Iranian elections.

Iran has previously threatened to close the Hormuz Strait, through which 40 percent of the world's oil is transported by ship, if "its interests are in serious trouble".

The US condemned the threats and warned that such a move would provoke US Military action.

Lindsey Williams, an ordained Baptist minister went to Alaska in 1970 as a missionary. Americans thrown in Jail for not paying off their Debt

The American Civil Liberties Union has launched a campaign to educate the public about the severity of holding too much debt. Civil liberties advocates say about 33 percent of US states jail people for not paying off their debts. Alabama, Florida and Ohio are three of the most costly states to be poor in. And according to a recent poll, Washington, DC is the country's most expensive city to live in.
