An infinite growth paradigm on a finite planet will necessarily hit the wall. What will the earth's 7 billion population do for productive work when in a few years 3-d machines operated by robots will be producing even the cheeseburgers at that golden arch place?




The sad fact is that millions of people are already dying from starvation. But I'm not sure it is because we have depleted our resources but rather because of the inequitable distribution of food. Surely there are ways to increase the production of food for human consumption (e.g., grow corn, oats and other grains for human consumption rather than for feeding livestock...in fact, there's some new technology in the works which may enable us to produce meat, not by raising animals for slaughter but by extracting cells from the animals which can then be "brewed" into tissue and processed into edible meat. Not only would this be a more humane way to eat meat but it would lessen the consumption of grains by non-humans. The real problem is how to convince people to make these culinary changes. And, I'm not so sure that those in power care one iota if billions of people were to perish from starvation. In their eyes, the more people who die, the more resources there would be for those who remain. Changing our monetary system won't change people's hearts. That's where the real problem and solution lies.

Signs of a Potential Slowdown in The Economy

There are three indicators to watch for that point to a potential economic downturn, and two of them are flashing warning signs, according to Donald Rissmiller, Founding Partner of Strategas. Rissmiller said he watches credit spreads, asset prices and inflation, and consumer confidence. Confidence could be an issue. ‘The drop in consumer confidence that we saw recently, especially in the Conference Board, survey is somewhat worrisome,' said Rissmiller. 'That’s a good leading indicator of a business cycle phenomena. We think we’ll get through it, but it’s worth watching.’ Rissmiller also said it terms of asset prices and inflation, he does not see any current problems there. But he is closely watching the credit market. ‘Today we have some stress in the energy sector, we’re seeing some signs of strain in the credit market, he said. 'So far it’s early to say there’s any sort of contagion, but we have to be alert to that.’ Still, Rissmiller is confident that the economy is in 'decent shape.' Rissmiller spoke with TheStreet's Rhonda Schaffler at Camp Kotok, an annual gathering of economists and money managers held each year in Maine.

Red Alert -- 2 Million People In California, Midwest Drink Water Contaminated with Uranium

 Almost 2 million people in California and the Midwest live on aquifer sites which have up to 180 times the safe level of uranium, according to a recent study by US researchers.
Some 275,000 groundwater samples were taken for evaluation, and it turns out that many Americans live about a kilometer from wells that are uranium-polluted, scientists from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln discovered.

Seventy-eight percent of the pollution comes from nitrate, the contaminator deriving from chemical fertilizers and animal waste. Nitrates oxidize uranium, making it soluble in groundwater.
