John Embry joined SAM as Chief Investment Strategist in March 2003, with a focus on the Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund. Coast To Coast AM - June 8, 2015 Strengthening the Grid Special

 The Secure the Grid Coalition is an ad hoc group of policy, energy, and national security experts, legislators, and industry insiders who are dedicated to strengthening America’s electrical grid. The Coalition aims to raise awareness to the threat of EMP as well as pass legislation to strengthen the grid. Advocates for strengthening the grid, Peter Pry (first hour), Michael Maloof (second hour), and William Forstchen (hours 3 + 4) discussed the progress being made to protect the US power grid from catastrophic failure, and the dire consequences if we don't.

There has been congressional interest in legislation to protect the grid, such as the Grid Act of 2010, which passed the House with strong bipartisan support. "But Washington is so broken," said Pry, that if the electric power lobby can find one single senator they can control, "they can put a hold on a bill, and they don't even have to take public responsibility for it-- they can do it anonymously. That's what happened to the Grid Act in 2010." Recent cyber attacks on the American government are testing how the US will react, and probing the country's defenses-- such attacks could set the stage for an EMP or cyber attack by a country such as North Korea that could damage our grid, he warned.

An EMP, which is a high energy burst of electromagnetic energy, could be released by a nuclear weapon detonated high in the atmosphere, and might completely knock out or fry any unprotected electrical system, as well as crucial automatic control systems, Maloof explained. In the event of a long term grid shutdown, there would be a cascade of catastrophic events that would sweep across the country, wiping out urban centers, with nine out of 10 people dying within the first year, he reported. Maloof noted that 2013's Shield Act would implement protection of the electrical infrastructure, but it's stalled in a House committee chaired by Michigan Representative Fred Upton.

Forstchen observed that a powerful solar flare, such as 1859's Carrington Event, in which telegraph lines actually caught on fire, is going to hit us sooner or later. A major solar event, in contrast to an EMP attack, would impact the entire planet, and the subsequent power losses would lead to curtailed food and water supplies, the outbreak of disease, and the breakdown of society, he outlined. With solar flares, there'll be some advance warning, but with an EMP attack, there would be sudden drastic effects, such as all planes within range of the detonation, immediately falling out of the sky, he cautioned. Forstchen advised being prepared to survive on your own for three to six months, as well as working within communities, and on the state level. Maine, he pointed out, has passed their own bill that requires the state to start upgrading its power grid.

DARPA ROBOT FAILS - Dystopian Future Where Autonomous Robots Carry Out Law Enforcement Coming Soon?

 
Dealing with disaster was, in fact, the theme of the DARPA Robotics Challenge, a two-day competition in which 23 teams—from the United States, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, and Hong Kong—set their humanoid robots to eight tasks of the kind that rescue workers might have to do in an emergency. “It’s about trying to advance the technology for disaster response,” said Gill Pratt, the program manager for the Robotics Challenge at the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA. But it’s not hard to envision future versions of these robots showing up on a battlefield in years to come, and some believe that could turn these roboticists’ success into a disaster.

By 2016, there will likely be a 6-foot tall police robot patrolling the streets and handing out parking tickets. The Telebot, developed by Florida International University’s Discovery Lab, has been field-tested and is undergoing final tune up.

With a swiveling head and dexterous fingers, the humanoid robot is controlled remotely by a person wearing an Oculus Rift headset and motion-tracking vest, arm bands, and gloves. The voice of the remote operator is transmitted through the robot to the unfortunate citizen on the receiving end.

The menacing look of Telebot is no accident. Its design is one “…that can intimidate and display a sense of authority.” Justification for this (let’s just say it) Robocop, is couched in appeals to sympathy, to help disabled officers and veterans “get back on the job.” The reality is that it introduces another level of intimidation to the increasingly militarized police state and brings us one step closer to a dystopian future where autonomous robots carry out law enforcement. e Knightscope K5 does not wield weapons but serves as a total surveillance machine for cops or private clients Unfortunately for the citizens of Police State USA, this is no laughing matter.

The secretive US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is developing a device that will plug directly into the brain and transmit images, bypassing the optical system altogether, according to reports.

Under the guise of developing a “cortical modem”, to enable blind people to see, DARPA researchers say that the device may also eventually replace all virtual and augmented reality technology. Former DARPA director and now Google executive Regina Dugan, who is helping to develop and promote the idea of an ingestible identification microchip, will be in attendance at the secretive 2015 Bilderberg conference in Telfs-Buchen, Austria. Dugan’s former position as director of DARPA, which many see as the leading force in a malevolent move towards a Big Brother surveillance society, is sure to stoke even more concern amongst privacy advocates.

One has to wonder, from this description, whether DARPA’s brain implant, would merely facilitate “patching up”, soldiers, and sending them back out to duty, as if they were defective robots. Indeed, that is the kind of transhumanism project that DARPA revels in. Just last year it was revealed that a DARPA team has constructed a machine that functions like a human brain and would enable robots to think independently and act autonomously.

Earth Changes: Continental Collision Could Trigger Massive California Tsunami

 Massive undersea earthquakes off the coast of California could send a tsunami crashing into Los Angeles or San Diego, new research suggests.

As the North American and Pacific tectonic plates grind past each other, large chunks of Earth's crust wedged between them get squeezed and twisted off Southern California and Baja California in Mexico. This logjam of crust could cause catastrophic ruptures at two faults along this boundary, setting off undersea temblors of magnitude 7.9 or 8.0, according to new research published April 25 in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface.

The San Andreas Fault — which snakes about 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) from Mendocino in northern California to the Salton Sea in the southern part of the state — gets most of the attention. But a network of faults also lurks off California's coasts.
