The Rise of the Machines – Why Automation is Different this Time

The only reason we need jobs is because we need money to buy stuff. If automation comes to a point where we can produce things ridiculously cheap, would we still need to have jobs? My point is, the industrial revolution liberated a lot of minds to pursue art and other interesting things, what if the information revolution liberated us all just to enjoy life and do the things we are interested in just because we enjoy them? I know this may sound utopic right now, but that's probably how people thought about free time before the industrial revolution.

SECRET NORTH KOREA 2017 - YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT IT'S LIKE

I smuggled this footage from inside North Korea, so you can see what it's like in the DPRK today.

Incredible documentary. From what you've shown me here North Korea seems like some kind of insane amalgamation of Nazi Germany, feudal China, George Orwell's '1984' and The Truman Show. Those who aren't starving to death have to live out a never-ending pantomime in fear of imprisonment or execution. Robotically 'programmed' from childhood these poor people have no idea that they are literally slaves of a dictatorial, ultimately doomed and globally reviled regime. Thankyou for risking so much and posting this.

North Korea sentences Trump to death!

North Korea sentences US President to death!

Obviously, President Xi and Kim Jong Un must meet in person, and whatever they agree on must be honored by USA. Right now after months of stand-off, USA has proven that it is not able to solve this problem peacefully. What need is there for China acting as a middle man between USA and North Korea? What have we seen but escalation of the problem while USA tried to take the lead role? It is time for China to take the lead role in trying to solve the problem; USA must disappear from the scene completely. Let Asians speak with Asians and solve this problem amicably starting with a President Xi and Kim Jong Un one on one discussion. After we have a good thing going with China and North Korea, they both must call for Japan and South Korea to be on the table for a dialogue. Like it or not China is the cooler headed party and for the sake of world peace China must be the leader of Asia at least for the next few decades. United States is not even an Asian country but both Russia (75% Asia) and China are Asians so they have the right to be there while USA does not. China is not perfect, but truth be said, most Asians would rather be led by China than by the United States because most Asians have Chinese blood. Asians have had many centuries of peaceful relationship with China, long before USA even became a nation so why add USA to the mix only to create instability and war? Nuclear arms race (i.e. 'Peace through strength') is not the answer, the answer is understanding each other's needs and seeing the willingness of every Asian country to co-exist and wish for the prosperity and happiness of each other. No one can love Asians better than the Asians themselves it is time for Asia to unite. .

HUMANOID ROBOT LEARNS TO DO BACKFLIP - This Is Just The Beginning. Are You Ready?

Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot can execute a perfect backflip. Atlas, which can also keep its balance when it’s pushed and get back up if it falls over, can now perform impressive gymnastic moves. Boston Dynamics has just released footage of the machine’s latest trick, and viewers are both impressed and concerned. As well as being able to jump from block to block and turn 180-degrees in mid-air, Atlas can do a backflip and land securely on its feet. Like a human, it even lifts its arms in the air as if to celebrate, though this may also help it balance. However, as the final part of the clip shows, it can’t always pull the move off successfully. “Atlas’ control system coordinates motions of the arms, torso and legs to achieve whole-body mobile manipulation, greatly expanding its reach and workspace,” says Boston Dynamics. “Atlas’ ability to balance while performing tasks allows it to work in a large volume while occupying only a small footprint. “The Atlas hardware takes advantage of 3D printing to save weight and space, resulting in a remarkable compact robot with high strength-to-weight ratio and a dramatically large workspace. “Stereo vision, range sensing and other sensors give Atlas the ability to manipulate objects in its environment and to travel on rough terrain.” Atlas stands at 1.5m tall, weighs 75kg and has 28 joints in its body. Parkour! That’s what we should all be devoting our combined robotics expertise towards. There’s no nobler human pursuit, so of course we should create a robot that can master the so-called ‘sport of kings.’ And yes, that is the true sport of kings. Boston Dynamics has shown off its new version of SpotMini, a robot dog that’s slightly less intimating cased in its more consumer friendly rounded future armor. But now it’s also catching us up on what’s been going down with its bipedal Atlas bot, the most humanoid of its creations. Atlas can now jump from elevated block to elevated block, and do a complete about-face in the air. It can leap pretty high, and also do a backflip – and then celebrate its backflipping ability. I could do without the grandstanding, future destroyer of worlds. Boston Dynamics released the Spot Mini which only weighs 25 kg (55 pounds) and is lighter than their other products. Robot Robotics AI "artificial intelligence" tech technology future "future tech" "next gen" "next generation" boston u.s. usa "united states" MIT gymnastics navigation athletic "new year" new 2017 2018 control power strength company american computer gps sensor sensors "high tech" update video "video clip" drone The robot runs off of dji drone review electricity and can operate for about 90 minutes, all depending on the tasks it is set to complete. Spot Mini is one of the quietest robots that Boston Dynamics has released. RHex is a six-legged robot with inherently high mobility. Powerful, independently controlled legs produce specialized gaits that devour rough terrain with minimal operator input. RHex climbs in rock fields, mud, sand, vegetation, railroad tracks, telephone poles and up slopes and stairways. RHex has a sealed body, making it fully operational in wet weather, muddy and swampy conditions. RHex's remarkable terrain capabilities have been validated in government-run independent testing. RHex is controlled remotely from an operator control unit at distances up to 700 meters. Visible/IR cameras and illuminators provide front and rear views from the robot.[37] Yeah, we were challenging humanoid robots with much more complicated, dynamic, and demanding tasks than a staged ascent of a perfectly level set of shallow steps. But if you asked me, "How long until these robots are doing backflips?" in 2015, after a weekend of watching DARPA 2018 pratfalls, I would've frowned and said something like, "Ugh."

You can't help but to feel bad for the North Korean people. There are 25 million people there most of which are starving. As we know what we see is just a front and only healthy people are shown. From the propaganda to the starvation is a shame. It really needs to stop. If a war with the U.S. happens the people with suffer even more. It will have to get worse for them before it gets better sadly.

The Military coup in Zimbabwe, explained

Why the Zimbabwe coup is not a revolution.

You would think a guy of 93 years would elevate himself to be a real friend of his people, to be revered in timeless history as Mandela will be. Instead he dooms his country to a game-of-thrones struggle, likely to be won by the most conniving psychopath. Democracy only works when parties that propose candidates do so in good faith. As you point out, the other issue in many African countries is the way the military have so much power, with power to buy and sell property for their own corrupt interests.

Venezuela in default: What next?

Oil-rich Venezuela has always paid its debts - even at the expense of its citizens. But this week, everything changed: Venezuela is now officially in default, which means it's officially bankrupt. Rating agency Standard & Poor's declared the nation in 'selective default' on Monday after it failed to make $200m in repayments for global bonds due in October. As more payments are due, Venezuela is facing what could be a messy financial unravelling. And that's not a good situation for its starving population as state assets may have to be sold off to pay credit holders. President Nicolas Maduro is acutely aware that he is running out of money, and he wants to restructure the billions owed to China, Russia and oil service providers. Russia has already agreed to restructure $3bn worth of debt held by Moscow. But US sanctions mean that other credit holders can't even be in the same room as those negotiating the restructuring. And it's not clear what's going to happen next. "Where we go from here is anyone's guess," explains Edward Glossop, an emerging markets economist at Capital Economics in London. Venezuela's debt "restructure talks look doomed to fail and it's only a matter of time before the government and state-owned oil company outright defaults on its external debt." "One of the key hurdles for the restructuring is US financial sanctions which prevent US investors from participating in any restructuring or refinancing deal ... and that's why we think the restructuring and refinancing is likely to fail in the current environment," says Glossop. Also on this episode of Counting the Cost: Zimbabwe's broken economy: Zimbabwe's army seized control of the country on Tuesday night, claiming it was removing "criminals" around Robert Mugabe, and held the president and his family under house arrest. But can the military intervention really bring change for the country's ailing economy? The price of Bitcoin jumped as much as 10 percent on Zimbabwe's Golix exchange on Wednesday after the country's army seized power. Zimbabweans, just like Venezuelans, are buying things they think might retain value. Alisa Strobel, a senior economist at IHS Markit from Cape Town, offers her take. Lebanon's economic squeeze: Caught in the middle of a bitter Saudi-Iran rivalry, worries are growing about the outlook for the Lebanese economy. Growth has slowed to just over two percent a year from an average of eight percent before the war in Syria. But regional rivalries between Saudi Arabia and Iran have raised fears of a Qatar-style blockade. The recent resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Riyadh under mysterious circumstances has not been resolved. Just before he quit, the government had managed to pass a budget after years of political stalemate. Sami Atallah, the director of the Lebanese Center For Policy Studies in Beirut assesses why this matters for the region. Digital pills: It's been called the world's first digital medicine, and analysts say it could open up a new frontier in the Internet of Things. The US Food and Drug Administration just approved a digital pill. Basically, it's a sensor the size of a grain of sand. Once swallowed, it will send data to a smartphone app when patients have taken their medication. Kristen Saloomey reports from New York. Lab meat: Research shows that the global meat industry produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all cars, planes, trains and ships combined. But scientists in the Netherlands say they are close to bringing laboratory-grown meat to the market. This could slice emissions and save energy, reports Fleur Launspach from Amsterdam.

Nuclear Attack on North Korea Is Imminent Putin WW3 Will Be Catastrophic

Cuban Missile Crisis: When the World Was on the Brink of Nuclear War On October 14, 1962, 55 years ago, a US Air Force U-2 spy plane took pictures confirming the deployment of Soviet R-12 missiles on Cuba. This date is believed to be the starting point of the Cuban missile crisis, a standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union, which nearly turned the Cold War into an open confrontation. One year before the crisis broke out the US deployed 15 Jupiter mid-range ballistic missiles near Izmir, Turkey, which were capable of destroying Moscow and other major cities in the European part of the USSR just within 10 minutes. Washington believed that the move would make Moscow incapable of a full-scale retaliation strike in case of war. For the first time, deployment of Soviet ballistic missiles and troops to Cuba was proposed by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev on May 20, 1962 during his meeting with Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko, Defense Minister Rodion Malinovsky and Deputy Premier Anastas Mikoyan. By that time, the global standoff between Moscow and Washington had reached its peak. The Soviet Union could not compete with the US in the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). The US had 144 SM-65 Atlas missiles and some 60 SM-68 Titan missiles. Moreover, 40 Jupiter missiles with a range of 2,400 kilometers were deployed in Italy and 60 PGM-17 Thor missiles with similar capabilities were stationed in Britain. The Soviet Union at the time had only 70 R-7 ICBMs, but only up to 25 of them could be launched simultaneously. Moscow also had 700 mid-range ballistic missiles, but they could not be deployed close to American territory. The weapon was deployed to Cuba in October 1962, sparking the Cuban Missile Crisis. On May 28, a Soviet delegation departed to Cuba. Fidel and Raul Castro were concerned about a possible US invasion and saw Moscow as a powerful military ally. On June 10, Soviet Defense Minister Malinovsky presented a plan to deploy Soviet missiles to Cuba, including 24 R-12 missiles with a range of nearly 2,000 kilometers and 16 R-14 missiles with a maximum range of 4,500 kilometers. Missiles of both types were capable of carrying a one-megaton warhead. .
